Castleford v Widnes - NL1 Grand Final!

Post by turf »

Phil Bentham seems to be doing a better job refereeing today's match between Castleford and Widnes than he did when he was video refereeing on Friday night with Leeds and Wigan.

Ian Smith I think has got a decision wrong. The last no try for Castleford should have been given as a try.

It's been a cracking game though imo. It has got everything in it, drama, guts determination, effort, controversy the lot.

Bring on the 2nd half I say! :) :)

PS: Back on Bentham. I think that some referees are actually better at refereeing than video refereeing.

Take Bentham as the prime example. Diabolical as a video referee on Friday night. A load better refereeing Castleford v Widnes tonight.

Cas were by far the better side; Widnes were generally poor. Only Grix and Smith played anything like well.

Pity; I'd have much preferred Widnes to come up.

Mr B got what he was paid for. Quick penalties against widnes to break up their momentum. Watch the video. Three Cas high shots in the first ten went unpunished yet the Cassidy high shots were just trapping the ball. Niether touched the neck. As for the late high shot on the full back the cas player just ducked under the arm. The arm was not swinging. Sorry won't say more.
Remember RL and Cas re Wigan points deduction though'

I thought Danny Brough controlled the show well with the remainder very willing and able. A solid performance with youth on its side. Brough to wakey will be a big miss next season. Me too, I would have preffered Widnes in SL next season. Looks like they will struggle to survive.
