Riversiders' Question of Sport night

Post by Nine »

For those who haven't seen it in the Wigan Evening Post, the Riversiders meeting tomorrow is a special event, a "Question of Sport" night.

Sky's change of date for the Catalans game, now being held at the same time as the meeting, means that Terry O can't make it so I can't confirm who will be the other team captain to take on Mick Cassidy, but here (below) are the details from what we sent out to the press.

Two Wigan Warriors fans will join players past and present, including pack legend Mick Cassidy, as part of rival sides battling it out in The Riversiders supporters club’s own Question of Sport contest.

Two teams will be made up of past and current Warriors stars, backroom staff and rugby league media experts. They will tackle questions covering a wide range of sports, plus a Warriors-oriented “Mystery Guest” round, at the Riversiders meeting at the JJB Stadium on Tuesday 1st July.

Fans Gerry McDonough and John Colquitt were the lucky winners from among the many Riversiders members to put their name in the hat to have a place in a team.

Riversiders chairman Jeanette Lusher said: “The fans jumped at the chance of joining in and pitting their wits against the professionals. I think Gerry and John have spent the past week or so swotting up on all kinds of sport since they found out they’d be taking part up on stage!

“It’s a sign of the brilliant relationship the supporters have with the club and its past players that the Riversiders can lay on a fun event like this with their co-operation and active participation.”

The quiz night will be held from 7.30pm in the South Stand bar at the JJB Stadium on Tuesday 1st July. It is open to non-members as part of the Riversiders’ policy of offering a one-off “taster” meeting before fans decide whether to join the supporters club.

For this meeting only there is a £2 charge (£3 non-members)
We've had it confirmed that the current players will be Darrell Goulding and Joel Tomkins.

Hot food will be available for £1.50 and doors open at 7pm.

Come and sit with us LRA no problem you will enjoy it you will not be on your own. :) You will probably have more friends who are already members than you know :o
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

What a laugh! I thought Graham "The Legend" Lovett was very fairly biased throughout the night - i.e. he was biased for one team, then he was biased for the other and by the end we had a draw due to his selective hearing on the bell versus rattle from the team captains during the quick-fire round.
