82 points to 10. Castleford actually took the lead 6-0 with an interception. After that it was an exhibition of RL with Sam Tomkins scoring 5 tries and Stuart Howarth a hattrick. Paul Prescott played for Wigan and Michael Korkidas for Castleford.

Team was Vievers, Melling, Goulding, Thornley, Stanton, Howarth, Tomkins, Prescott, Gee, Holland, Mossop, Tuson, Reay Reserves Bradley, Massam, Rhoden, Priest.

Massam picked up an injury.

Wigan Reserves run riot over Castleford

Post by josie andrews »

Wigan reserves ran out an impressive score to beat Castleford 84 - 10.

Sam Tomkins was again the star as he ran in 5 tries. There was some cracking interplay during the first half keeping the ball alive going through several pairs of hands before Howarth scored. And the offload in the second half from Mossop to give Tomkins his fourth try was sublime.

Two Cas players were sin binned, Steve Howard, second row forward after one of several high tackles on Lee Mossop. Sean Johnson for dissent.

Try scorers for Wigan

Sam Tomkins 5
Stuart Howarth 3
Sam Gee 2
Andrew Thornley
Neil Holland
Chris Tuson
Lee Mossop
Luke Roden

Goals

Nicky Stanton 11
Josh Vievers

Half time score was 38 - 6
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Sam Tomkins as usual was involved in nearly every move his 5 tries were top drawer. Only wish the first team could play rugby like the reserves do offloading and backing up tackling their guts out for the Wigan shirt.

Josie has 25 Phillipinnos keeping score for her

The Reserves are in a rich vein of form at the moment and for those that say players are too small. Nicky Stanton was driving Korkidas backwards in the tackle.
