The Yorkshire Evening Post understands Leeds Rhinos have identified Sydney City Roosters centre Sia Soliola as a possible replacement for injury victim Clinton Toopi.
Soliola, 22, has scored five tries in 21 appearances for Roosters this year, after recovering from a serious knee injury which wrecked his 2007 campaign.
He made his Test breakthrough under current Rhinos coach Brian McClennan in the 2006 Tri Nations, scoring four tries in five appearances.
He earned another Test cap last year and was a try scorer for the Kiwis in this season's centenary Test against Australia. Soliola, who joined Roosters in 2005, is under contract until the end of next season.
His current club are understood to be willing to allow him to join Leeds, but are looking to sign a Rhinos player in exchange – with utility man Jordan Tansey believed to be at the top of their wish list.
Soliola – who has also played in the second-row for his club this season – has been named in New Zealand's provisional squad for next month's World Cup and is a Test team-mate of Toopi, who was released by Leeds last month after undergoing a knee reconstruction.
