RHINOS AGREE NEW DEAL WITH TANSEY

Post by josie andrews »

engage Super League Grand Finalists Leeds Rhinos have announced today that Jordan Tansey, 22, has agreed a new deal with the club that will see him spend the next two seasons in Australia with Sydney Roosters before returning to Headingley Carnegie in 2011.
Tansey had one year remaining on his current contract however the Rhinos have agreed to release him from that final year after negotiating the new deal.
Commenting on the announcement Chief Executive Gary Hetherington said, “We recognise that Jordan’s opportunities have been limited in his favoured positions of full back or in the half backs because of the presence of world class players like Brent Webb, Rob Burrow and Danny McGuire at the club. This is a fantastic opportunity for him to go and play in the NRL and hopefully he will return in 2011 to put his experience to use with the Rhinos.”
Tansey has started just 19 of the 52 games he has played with the Rhinos since making his debut in March 2006. He has scored 21 tries including a hat trick against Castleford at Headingley Carnegie back in August.

Roosters set to sign Englishman

The Sydney Roosters are poised to sign Englishman Jordan Tansey for the 2009 NRL season.

The 22-year-old utility currently plays his football with Leeds Rhinos, who finished one point behind eventual champions St Helens Saints in the minor premiership race.

The highly rated back has played 40 UK super league matches for the Rhinos in the past three seasons, two of them finals appearances.

Tansey can comfortably slot into centre, wing and hooker but five-eighth and fullback are his best positions.

He is considered to be a strike player who has a great try scoring capability.

If Tansey is selected this weekend he will play his final game for the club in the grand final against the Saints at Old Trafford in Manchester

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

It may do him some good. I was gutted when Leeds did not select him v us. If a stint in Aus can teach him to tackle properly he could be a half decent player.
