SL as it stands

Post by gpartin »

Amazing.. semi final, Leeds, 2nd team in SL throw every thing at a 'crap' Wigan side and Win by 4 points. Final, 'best team in the world' St Helens get beaten by 6 by the very same team... Leeds are now amazing, Sts aren't apparently.

There's a salary cap now. Finishing top is worth nothing Stevo... super League is now down to a couple of games.. annoying isn't it??? It really annoys me to be honest but how can a team get credit for finishing top when finishing top isn't the ulimate goal? It pains me to say but perhaps its better to just do enough all season to get in the top 6? What good is it putting 100% in all season to fall at the final hurdle?... what good is it for a team to entertain their fans by winning the majority of games and still not have their name in the history books at end of the year?

Wigan can beat Leeds, Leeds can beat Wigan, Saints can beat Leeds, Leeds can beat Saints, Cats can beat Wigan, Wigan can beat Cats...

Who's best??? Who's coached best? Did Leeds plan to dominate the first half of the Season, drop off and then win the GF? Did Wigan plan to peak for the playoffs? Does Anderson care now he's leaving Saints?... Who knows?

Got to peak at the right time of the season and be able to handle the pressure of the big games - the intensity of the play-offs is so much greater than normal rounds of SL and separates the good sides from the class sides.

As for final league position, home advantage for higher league finish is an obvious advantage but I think it's about managing the weekend or two off for finishing the top two which is key. Saints obviously didn't benefit as they should have done from the week off, where, for example, in 2003 Bradfords rest was clearly the telling factor against Wigan.

Must admit, if we finished top of the league and then lost the final I would be a tad miffed, but hey, it was Stains so who gives a chuff
