Bad Weather Games
Just been watching NFL "Top 10" bad weather games and got me thinking, what rugby games (or any sport) have you been to that were dreadful?
My first was Hull KR in the cup, 1990. I remember it because my grandma filled her flask up with soup from a cafe, half time it was frozen. Had to use a picnic blanket from the car to wrap me and my sister up. It was freezing... apparently it was a bad week for gales/ floods etc... the north sea didnt help that night no wonder we had a low scoring game (i think)
Halifax at thrum hall in the cup early 90s in the snow. I still have an iconic image imprinted on my mind of a wigan fan, fag in mouth, blue away shirt and stonewash jeans... his arms were as red as the home shirt. Mad man.
Fogsall a few years back quite weird being there. Everyone just talked whilst the game took place like there wsnt a game on, all of a sudden tannoy comes on "Try scorer for Wigan" *cheers* was a laugh
Perpignan in the rain. I think a whole winter went by without any rain in the region, we play them it all comes at once... being on the warriors plane i guess everyone was soaked since landing to getting home that night... ruined my new shirt the colours ran.

Re: Bad Weather Games
The Perpy game in 2007, didn't think it could rain so hard or so much.
We got there on the Thursday and it was fine just a bit windy. It started Friday night, and never stopped till Sunday, we were soaked thru, we also went to watch the Wigan supporters team play against the Catalan one on the Saurday morning, and it just went on from there soaked for near enough 12 hours and had two changes of clothes in that as well.
When the game was on, there was a small swimming pool at Wigans left hand corner. Every time the dragons kicked there the ball just stopped dead. I remember Nobby saying that he'd told the players to play for that corner in the second half. LOL they must have pulled the bloody plug at half time 'cos it had disappeared when play was resumed and we were kicking to that end.
Lockers scored the final try to win us the game and how he didn't drown as he slid over the line is anybodies guess, it looked like he was aqua-planing or surfing on his belly.
Anyway when you had all gone home, the weather returned to being very pleasant and warm.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Remember as a young 'un being huddled behind the wall at Knowsley road sheltering from the driving rain and Mark Preston scored a try but slid into the wall near me.
Fog at Odsal on more than one occasion.
I also remember getting soaking wet at Twickenham, (England V Aus, RLWC 2000):
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_l ... 996180.stm We were quite high up in the stands and weren't able to move due to the stewards but the wind was coming straight towards us and my jeans doubled in weight. Said I'd never go back to Twickenham after that and don't think I ever will... One of the worst days of Rugby I can remember had cold for a week after.

Yeah I think he carried on, I was probably only about 8 or 9 so can't remember exactly but I think it was at the uncovered end??? I peered over the wall and Preston looked straight into my eyes as if to say 'ouch'Fujiman wrote:Remember that game. Was stood opposite side under the tin roof. Re: Bad Weather Games
i think the wettest i ever got at a game was the roses match at odsal a few years back where lancs were hammered 50-something 4 and we forgot our brolly - which is stupid because it always bloody rains when I go to Yorkshire, just to make the place more miserable!

Re: Bad Weather Games
It always rains in Leigh as well, been soaked there every game we've played. Always said that the B & Q place next door was actually a rain factorymarkill wrote:i think the wettest i ever got at a game was the roses match at odsal a few years back where lancs were hammered 50-something 4 and we forgot our brolly - which is stupid because it always bloody rains when I go to Yorkshire, just to make the place more miserable!

Re: Bad Weather Games
Watersheddings (how aptly named) in the great cup run. The only way we could see the lines was because they had been cleared of snow. Surprisingly the pitch itself wasn't frozen but the rest of us were.
Two things I remember clearly. First a scrum clearing and leaving a patch of steam where it had been. Second, Kevin Iro-o-oo-oo sliding over for a try. I think we enjoyed it when we had thawed out.
