Does Karmichael Hunt fit the IL criteria?

If Hunt goes to Japanese RU fair enough but if he signs for South Sydney then IMO Wigan RLFC have failed to sign a Wigan RLFC type of player. A world class player.

He is the superstar we need.
K.Hunt (say it in one... naughty C word)

We so far seem to be outbid by other SL clubs for decent talent, just hope IL pursues to the best he can.

Would Karmichael Hunt even be able to get a visa?

Isn't the forwards a greater priority?

Is it wise to spend so much of the salary cap on one player? Brisbane offered him $1 million to stay.

At 22 would he want to come to super league? Origin and international honours down the drain?

Would love him at Wigan but I would also love Billy slater, Jarryd Hayne, Greg Inglis, Israel Falou, Jonathan Thurston at Wigan but it's not realistic and isn't going to happen.

I'm not concerned Wigan 'missing out' on players like Karmichael Hunt. It would be Brent Kite, Shane Tronc, Carl Webb etc I would be annoyed about missing out on.

Although I believe we have made one signing already who I'm very happy with the other I hope is not true.
Who?

Our forwards? Are they so bad? We certainly do not need to be signing any back rowers. The hooking position is tied up. Props? If the props do their job then no need for anybody else. We have several young props. Currently we commit a huge % of our cap on props. It makes no sense to increase that % The issues seem to be Retain Coley or sign somebody on a similar contract or if we do not renew Fielden and/or Feka's contract after 2010 it gives Wigan the opportunity to sign a world class prop in their place.

Re Hunt. If he is prepared to go to Japanese RU then clearly rep honours are not the overriding factor in determining his future. He is prepared to go there at 22. Obviously no RL club can compete financially with the Japanese RU but that is not the point.

If he went to South Sydney then clearly his wage demands are within reach of RL clubs. In that scenario, Hunt is the type of player Wigan should be in the market for. 9,7,6 and 1's are hugely important.

What startles me is how many people believe that it is unrealistic for Wigan RLFC to sign world class players. Do all fans want to become clones of the cowardly cruncher on RLfans. Warrington signed Andrew Johns (short term), Matt King, Monaghan. Saints signed Puletua. We signed Trent.

Yes the £ to $ is less favourable but it is still reasonable. It is likely to go upwards not downwards. The tightening of the overseas tax loophole is a hinderance for some clubs. However, the opportunity to play for the most famous club in RL, to enjoy a different style of RL/less intense media coverage and to travel through/see Europe on a 2 or 3 year contract.

agreed but so are good props who can last at least 60mins in a game

Skerret used to do the full 80

i do not think Feka is the impact player every one thinks he is and Coley as never been Wigan class prescott is better than Coley by a mile

I'd love to see Feca getting more game time, as would we all, but he so often has a winning impact on a game even in his brief spells. He was directly responsible for at least two of our tries against Bradford; Drawing 4 men into the tackle to create a huge gap for Sam to get through at the next PTB to create Joel's try, and a huge run to the 10m line to set up Richards's try.

OAM Therein lies the problem. We have props earning huge sums not doing the job they are paid for. I just think it is not sensible to then spend money on another prop until we can offload such players. Sam Burgess smashed Fielden legally in a tackle and we then got the Fielden signalling histrionics followed by nothing. Not sure any club can justify paying so much for Feka. Coley for me is like Tommy Lu Lu, a player who fits no position. Coley has some skills IMO but is he a second rower? No is he a prop? No Answers on a postcard please.
