O'Connor & Craig Smith to go.

Post by GeoffN »

According to todays Wigan Reporter, Maurice intends to run with just Davico, Seuseu & Scully as props.

It would be a real shame to lose either of the guys. I think Smithy has been outstanding for the last two seasons and Terry O is just Terry O....

If true it's not just a shame but it doesn't make sense. We struggled with three props this season, then injury takes us down to none and Mo plans not to boost the forwards. We'd have been better resigning Craig Smith and leaving the backs alone.

Keep Smith, why the hell would we let the best prop in the league go.

GR!
There was talk on here about O'Connor going to widnes for his last season at the beginning of the season wasnt there. I wouldnt be surprised if he went just for his last season but it would be a shame, he's been a very good player for us over the years and he's a great character. As for Smith, it would be a shame if we lost him, he's no where near past it yet, still got a few seasons in him.

Agreed. We've gotta keep one of them, I feel, and Smiffy's been playing superbly (even when injured)
When's Maurice out of contract, maybe we could sell him to Skints?

GeoffN, Don't forget Andy Farrell, with all this back row talent we've got and more coming through he'll find it easier getting into the first team as a prop! :conf:

Craig Smith has been the catalyst behind the recent run of good results. Its a tribute to his ability and desire to "put his body on the line" and its been made all the more impressive by the lack of fellow forwards to share the workload. His efforts over his time with Wigan coupled with his recent superb form should have made him a cert to be in the cherry and whites next year. I hope this is nothing more than rumour.

we have davicio scully and seu seu for next year but also we have rising young stars coming from the academy like bryn hargreaves, i would love for us to sign smiffy for one more year but we have got to give these young lads a chance and they are not gunna get it if we keep signing australian or new zealand props who are 30-something years old
