"It's a fabulous opportunity and it would have been wrong to try and persuade him to stay," said Wigan coach Brian Noble.
No Brian, it would not have been wrong to tell how a big a part he could have at Wigan for the next decade, it would not have been wrong to tell him as a young man he could try his hand in Australia at a later date, No Brian, it would not have been wrong to make him feel absoloutely wanted if he stayed.
The lad may have gone even if we'd have bent over backwards to try and keep him but not to even try?!? Ridiculous

he decided this along time ago. i think its his girl friend who is going, so he wanted to go and spend a couple of years over there. although im sure i have seen him saying he wanted to come back to england in 2 or 3 seasons, and im sure wigan will have first option on him when he does.
Re: Flanagan off to Wests - I am FURIOUS
I was told the reason Mark decided to go to Aus was that before the Celtic game, nobody from coaching staff or IL had spoke to him about a new deal for next season. Mark and his girlfriend made there minds up to go to Aus. Mark thought Wigan were going to release him so he asked big Frank to see if he could get him a feeder or NRL club. Then Mark got more games in the 1st team and there was more interest in Aus.

I have said it before and I will say it again Noble you are a muppet. The sooner you hit the road the better of Wigan will be for your exit.Ok I can see the reasoning for Mark wanting to play in Australia and I can only see him being a better player after his return. However, what gets my goat more than anything is that the coaching staff at Wigan must have seen the potential in him.And if not.Why not? And if they did why did we not consider the possibility we would lose his talents because of our ineptitude. And why would Sunday be his last game for us? Does Noble expect that we are going to lose on Sunday?Because if we do win then surely we would need his services again.Or am I missing something?

When I read he said it was good for Mark, good for Wests and good for us I must admit I read the "good for us" bit a few times and was thinking, what on earth does he mean?
He always one for a sound bite so being charitable he had probably committed to saying it before he thought about it!
In general though I mentioned Flanagan leaving in a debate with Jonh on rlfans. Normally is sensible poster I am according to him apparently living in the past that young players should be given a shot at SL for the odd game here and there to introduce them gradually, they will apparently only be given a chance when injuries occur and have to lump it until then, the days of 17 or 18 year old's getting a début as Faz abd Rads did are no a thing of the past and they will only get their chance at age 20 or later.
And there was me thinking the lack of opportunity this lad got had possibly influenced his decision to go. I am wrong, its what he should expect!

the stupid thing is with this, Noble is love's bringing over aussies sooo much!. Yet we have a player, a british player at that, within our ranks who's deemed good enough to get a contract over there and he isn't interested in keeping him!?!!
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure

Yet another player we signed young and nurtured through the difficult years, only to find that they won't be a Wigan player when they really come good.
Look at the current Super League and its players. There's a fantastic team you could make up of players who used to wear cherry and white.

JonH likes to think he knows more than he does Dave. Funny how young players can play in the NRL on harder unforgiving grounds. Daniel Mortimer is 20 and weighs 79 kg (12 st 6 lb) Jamal Idris is 19 Height 192 cm (6 ft 4 in) Weight 106 kg (16 st 10 lb) Josh Dugan
is 19 Height 188 cm (6 ft 2 in) Weight 88 kg (13 st 12 lb) You could throw in Myler, Westermann et al in SL. An ex pro told me is you are good enough you are old enough and you are big enough. Ignore pretentious garbage by the likes of Jon H.
Injuries will happen in sport. Chev Walker is bigger and older and what happened to him was sheer bad luck. Players get injured playing reserves and academy. It rarely has anything to do with the quality of the competition, more often just bad luck.

Re: Flanagan off to Wests - I am FURIOUS
Some of the comments on here are out of order as Flanagan is going to Australia because his girlfriend is returning to Australia and he wants to be with her,
