Frankie Parr

Anyone remember him?

I am having a row with someone who says Frankie Parr played for Wigan.

I say he played for Stains.

Who's right.

Frankie Parr played scrum half for Wigan in the mid to late 1960's.

Frankie Parr what a fine bloody player he was.Sadly he was known to like a little of the right arm stuff.Fortunately I am old enough to remember him and to see him play.Believe he was a good mate of Billy Boston.Often seen together in the Park Hotel. :D

Frank Parr is my father.

He was born in Leigh, signed for Wigan, never played for another professional club & retited from rugby after a fall out with board.

He still lives in Wigan with my mum, now retired and can be seen walking his dog.

Warren

I remember your dad playing. Cracking little scrum half who definitely knew how to mix it with the big boys!

One game in particular I recall. He was taken out off the ball. Referee (Eric Clay?) missed it. Mick Sullivan didn't! He cleaned the bloke out!!

Happy days!!

Good to hear he is still OK!!

Pardon the pun, but that was par for the course in those days. Scrum half's job was to wind up the opposition and try to to throw them off their game. Smaller the scrum half the better as there was always a big lad watching over them.

Best example would probably be the partnership between Murphy & Karalius!

And of course, everyone knows about the sparring between Bradshaw and Whitcomb at Wembley!!

Happy days indeed!!
