The Sun repeats the same comments:

He said: "Michael is taking over a good squad that has probably underperformed this year and his first role is to make it perform.

"You only have to look at the weight of one or two players to realise there is room for improvement in fitness and conditioning.
It will matter with a passion if we don't win next year.

"I don't need to tell Michael our objective, he tells me that."

It's like listening to myself

did anyone see the picture attached to the Guardian article about Mr Maguire?
Old shot of the seats still with the JJB pattern.
Hope it didn't upset Whelan too much!

The headline is "Brian Noble accused of not getting players fit enough by Wigan chief"

The article then goes on to say:

"Wigan chairman Ian Lenagan has accused Brian Noble of failing to get his players into peak physical condition."

He does no such thing. Yes he says one or two players are unfit bit nowhere does he make any accusations against Noble. That is all Daily Mirror spin.

Yes IL is right and yes it was Noble's ultimate responsibility to deal with the issue but this is IMO a classic case of the newspapers making up an argument between two parties that isn't anything like the headline implies.

It makes interesting reading Dave.
I for one am pleased this has been released, as myself and others on this site repeatedly commented on the unacceptable fitness of some of the players, only to be told we were all Noble knockers.
Not only the players have to now worry about their fitness, but so do the fitness coaches who are not up to the mark.
I want to be the first to make this comment on this site.
"Under Michael Mcguire's training, Amos Roberts will be within the top three fastest wingers in Superleague next season, barring injury".

Glassback Roberts, your having a giraffe. Hopefully he'll be going to Celtic so that a proper winger can do a job like Ainscough

I am in an optimistic mood with Maquire's appointment but there are limits! Roberts is not only too slow to be IL's "flying winger" but his defense is as suspect if not more so than Ainscough. If MM can sort him out he will be a bit of a miracle worker.

Wasn't Roberts one of the top try scorers in the NRL? You don't do that by being poor.
Lets give him a chance, he might pull a Pat Richards on us.

I don't think lack of pace is really all that much of a problem with him, what concerns me more (apart from his defence) is that he can't create his own space, either with elusiveness or with strength in breaking tackles, as Ainscough does so well.

I don't mind a winger being defensively suspect if he's scoring tries to compensate - Roberts isn't. Dallas wasn't that quick in his last 2 years with us, but he could still make things happen. Offiah & Robinson weren't the greatest defenders, but they'd score three for every one they let in - as did Ainscough.
