Club confirms that DW Stadium pitch to be replaced

Wigan Athletic have confirmed that the DW Stadium pitch is to be relayed over the coming weeks.

After a very harsh winter and the intense usage in a short period the decision has been made this afternoon (Friday) that the current surface will be replaced.

Head Groundsman Ian Forshaw and his team will get to work immediately after the rugby league game on the 26th February with the bulldozers working throughout the night to pull up the surface and then get the new turf laid as quickly as possible over the weekend and into the following week.

A new fibre-reinforced lokturf will be laid on the entire surface and Forshaw explained: "The growing season is just a few weeks away and this new surface will quickly become established."

New Pitch

Post by Th'eggchaser »

Does any one know if this new pitch made of re-inforced lokturf fibre, to be laid after the Catalan game, is marsh proof?

Well, Stefan did pretty well on it in the Reserves GF, so I'd say so, yes...

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Got told off a steward tonight the Latics trained on the pitch during December and January.
The pitch is being ripped up tomorrow at 10-am and the new pitch is part smythetic.

Lets hope the new playing surface doesnt effect our good start to the season, or lead to injuries etc.
