Huddersfield Home Game Switched

Post by josie andrews »

Just got an email from the club to say this is now confirmed on the official site
http://www.wiganwarriors.com/WContent.a ... &type=news

Wigan Warriors can confirm that the engage Super League Round 25 home game with Huddersfield Giants has been moved from Friday 13th August to Sunday 15th August at the DW Stadium with a 3pm kick off.

The game has been moved to accommodate Wigan Athletic against Blackpool FC in the Barclays Premier League which was originally scheduled to take place at Blackpool, but due to ongoing work at their Bloomfield Road ground the game has now been moved to the DW Stadium on Saturday 14th August. The change in football fixture has been ratified by the Premier League and accordingly the Warriors have moved their game to the Sunday.

Speaking about the change, Chairman Ian Lenagan said,

"We have been asked by Wigan Athletic and the DW Stadium to change the Huddersfield home game to the Sunday to accommodate the change in the Premier League fixture the day before. We are more than happy to assist in this and would like to thank Huddersfield Giants for their agreement to switch the fixture to Sunday."
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Unfortunately what's missing is;

"by consolidating this positive relationship between the to equal tenants of the DW Stadium, Wigan Warriors can assure fans that a reciprocal arrangement is in place to ensure Wigan Warriors will not be disrupted during the Engage Superleague playoff games scheduled for September 2010”

If only!

It seems that, yet again, we have to bite our lips, doff our caps to the Primadonna League and take it.

Seems strange that this release has only come out when the fans express displeasure.

We appreciate that it isn't your fault, Mr Lenagan, but the big question now is will we have to forfeit home advantage to play at a neutral venue if we maintain top spot in the Playoff run up?

The players and staff employed by the club have slogged their guts out to try to gain an advantage (hopefully) in the Playoffs!!!

The fans have paid a lot of money to see Wigan's best chance in heaven knows how long of getting their hands on some silverware. It's money that some people can ill afford in the current economic climate, but it's the one thing that gives some supporters hope that there's something better around the corner!!!

Please, do not take this to be a slight against the good work that's being done both on the park and behind the scenes, but your team and it's fans - the same fans who have been assigned a Squad Number for their loyalty through good times and bad - deserve fair treatment, particularly as we are so near to such a crucial time of the season.

There are different rules/safety guidelines for Premiership football stadiums, I know one is that Premier League stadium must be all seater stadiums.

e-mail sent to the club this morning . Not holding my breath for a reply .

Wigan Warriors .v. Huddersfield Giants

Date change

Speaking about the change, Chairman Ian Lenagan said,

"We have been asked by Wigan Athletic and the DW Stadium to change the Huddersfield home game to the Sunday to accommodate the change in the Premier League fixture the day before. We are more than happy to assist in this and would like to thank Huddersfield Giants for their agreement to switch the fixture to Sunday."

Reference the above statement

Did the club consider Warriors fans who travel long distances to attend home & away games when "happly" agreeing to this date switch . Travelling south from Edinburgh every week cost me and my son a great deal of money every week on travel and hotel costs so in most cases we purchase advance hotel and train / plane tickets (depending on the fixture location).
On this occasion i have advance train/hotel tickets wich are unless i can "swap" for other dates not valid (refunds are not available). I also know of several Wigan based supporters who now cannot attend this fixture , the date of which has been in place for around nine months. The fact that Sky television change fixture times and dates is a situation we have to live with as they pay the wages, but this in my opinion is out of order .

Could you also explain why almost every media outlet has been reporting this change for several days before Wigan Warrior thought fit to do so .

Thank-you

Warrior e-ticketing still selling tickets online advertising the match date as 13/08/10 KO 20:00.

If they hurry up a wee bit they might be able to wake up before the game is played .

It's ridiculous that we have to move a fixture to accommodate Blackpool FFS.

Outrageous in fact.
