Chris Ashton
Good Afternoon all from Northampton
We are all basking in the refelcted glory of Chris Ashton's fantastic try against the Australians yesterday.
It only seems right and proper that someone should express gratitude and appreciation for the Club that taught him 'all he knows' before he shifted to our club.
I know his departure from Wigan & League caused a lot of bad feeling at the time, but hope all at Wigan can also share the pride of his achievement.

You should recognise when we call him Flash - but for some reason I don't understand, he is also known as The Snake Charmer!

Pleased to see things going so well for him.
I know there was a lot of criticism at the time that it was just for the money etc, but he has gone into Union and provided some real value for money entertaining tries.
To do that at club level has been an achievement, but to see him doing it for England too shows that he is the talent in Union that we always knew he would become.
Just one thing - what have you been feeding him? He's seriously bulked up since his league days

Re: Chris Ashton
Very talented player with top drawer anticipation.
P.S v NZ how on earth did he get away with being so far offside for the kick through that led to a try.

Neil - Jim Mallinder brought a chum in from Sale to be Saints Performance Director - Nick Johnston a.k.a The Hood. He is one serious operator. This will be the cause of Ashton's change in shape.what have you been feeding him? He's seriously bulked up since his league days
Also take a look at what he's done with Tonga'uiha in the past 3 years, unrecognisably fitter and lighter

When he arrived at Northampton playing his first season in the second division I remember a BBC interview with Jim Mallinder who very much doubted Chris's ability to be able to step up into the top division.
I doubt the credability of any coach who questions the ability of a player who previously re-set the try scoring record books at any rugby club. (6 tries in one match, and most tries in a season).
My initial thought on Jim Mallinder's comments was of him doubting that a raw ex-League player could make it in Union.
You just have to look at Myler and Ashton as the answer to that.

Glad to see hm do well, always liked him, and he was treated pretty shabbily by Noble, announcing his wage details to the world as he did.
No one could blame the lad for taking a huge pay increase, he would have been foolish not too.

Re: Chris Ashton
At my peril I watched the game yesterday because Chris was playing and he plays like a rugby league full back, following the ball looking for the slip hence his 1st try he's always had good speed stamina and it washout to see him burn the Aussies off, as a Northampton Demons player he's one of the reasons I sometimes watch the Saints lol

Chris Ashtons second try was a breadth of fresh air in England RU I hope this is the way they intend to play that way come the WC. Ball in hand not on the foot running ! what dare I say like League
Northampton Demons ? I remember my days at Northampton Knights and Nene Valley before good to see League still being played in Northamptonshire
