We need Pat back fast!! and an enforcer!
4 out our 5 back line under the age of 23 and under 6ft is causing us issues.
It seems like teams have found a way to get around our stout defense the high bomb, its causing the youngsters a lot of issues, we are really missing richards cool head under the bomb and height when contesting.
Also we need an enforcer front rower to take the game forward. Coley was good tonight lima was ok, i think we miss joel, he provides a bit of fire, or in an in form feilden.
Hocks return is looking more and more needed

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure

Yes the side we put out tonight was too inexperienced and high kicks are causing us too much trouble.
Unfortunately while we could do with Richards and Fielden back ASAP they are not coming back ASAP so this is when we miss the likes of Gleeson to add some experience.

I agree daveo i didnt think we'd miss gleeson but while the youngsters clearly have talent they are also still youngsters and pressure is telling, thats 2 weeks i a row the high bomb has been used as a tactic to get at us

I think what you are really saying is that once we have a full squad available, other teams should be afraid. Very afraid!Wigan_forever1985 wrote:4 out our 5 back line under the age of 23 and under 6ft is causing us issues.

Richards is out for a while and we don't have Gleeson so we need to look at why we are getting peppered with bombs and having to try take them under pressure and it seems pretty straight forward to me. As I said in the other thread if you only play one man rugby in your own half and rely on a long kick to get position you rarely make breaks but end up giving the opposition the best part of 6 tackles in your half so of course the chase from their kicks is going to pressure us much more than them. Its rare I've criticised Madge's tactics but I've noticed it every game this year far more than last. We are exceptional at angled running, running from deep, short inside passes and long passes anywhere in the field. When Amos is on top form you can do the one man stuff knowing that at some stage he's going to make a really good break and get some territory but at the moment there's only Faz, Hoffman and Mossop who look like they want to do something different and put someone through a gap and we missed Faz badly tonight. We need to sack the one man rubbish off asap and get back to playing some rugby and running with the ball as what we're doing is clearly not working. I'm surprised Madge hasn't already sorted this because it was blindingly obvious in the WCC and we've invited pressure in each match since. If you look at all the stats from before tonights game for possession, tackles made, clean breaks etc you'd have thought we'd lost every game.
Another thing I said after the Hudds game was that if Amos hadn't been playing in that game then Josh Charnley would have ended up being humiliated last week rather than being MOM. I think tonight showed I was probably right. Charnley is a centre, not a winger, and the previous week v Hull showed he is, in general, a liability under the high ball. If Brough had kicked to Charnley's wing with the accuracy he was kicking to Amos at FB they'd have won the game.

what worries me, josh, amos, tomkins, goulding, all struggle under the high ball we need someone who can sweep up those kicks or any coach worth his salt will send a constant barrage of these kicks at us

The one man stuff resulting in a break or territory is expected to come form Sam at the moment and its not working. When Amos is on top form you can do the one man stuff knowing that at some stage he's going to make a really good break and get some territory but at the moment there's only Faz, Hoffman and Mossop who look like they want to do something different and put someone through a gap and we missed Faz badly tonight.
I agree and we look far less of a team than we did last year at the minute. Maybe not surprising considering who is out for various reasons. We need to sack the one man rubbish off asap and get back to playing some rugby and running with the ball as what we're doing is clearly not working.
Well I hope if Madge doesn't deal with this Charnley's career is not ruined by being played out of position.Another thing I said after the Hudds game was that if Amos hadn't been playing in that game then Josh Charnley would have ended up being humiliated last week rather than being MOM. No, most wingers in SL will struggle jumping from a standing position and getting higher than an opposition winger with a run up and probably lose out 50% of the time. This shouldn't be an issue if the kicker is pressured or we're keeping them pinned back forcing a kick from deeper and making the chase less effective, but the fact we aren't doing this is making the players we have on the wing more of an issue than it needs to be. Incidentally, knowing his weakness under the high ball Amos had learnt to play on the wing by allowing their winger to catch the ball and just making the tackle. Sort out how we're going to make yards out of our own half and sort out our first line of defence (total disarray and having to scramble all season) and even if none of our wingers and fullbacks can catch a high ball under pressure and just do what Amos was doing it shouldn't really be a significant problem.Kittwazzer wrote:Is that roughly what Gaz said? I think we need a hooker or move Tommy to 9 because we are missing Piggy more than anyone else, with Finch and Deacon in the halves,in my opinion.
I always knew that I liked this place, you don't have to look to far to find a friendly face, I feel alive when I'm walking on this street, I feel the heart of this city pounding underneath my feet, yeah if the world keeps spinning round and round this is were it all goes down, down, down, THAT'S WHY I LOVE THIS TOWN!.
