Brian Carney should appear on Richard and Judy
Brian Carney should appear on Richard and Judy
I think he'd be a marvellous guest, there should be more rugby league players on TV, especially Brian, and Richard and Judy is a quality show. I might email them and demand to see Brian on soon. Anyone else think it would be a good idea?
Also, hiya, I'm new. I thought I'd start with an interesting and relevant post.

I think it was in this week's Rugby Leaguer/League Express, someone was berating Richard Lewis for not promoting the game enough on television and saying he should be making use of high profile people like Parkinson who claim to love the sport. If he's so passionate, there's no reason why he shouldn't be interviewing some of the more articulate rugby league personalities, the likes of Offiah, Carney and even Sean McRae would have been an interesting guest just for his appearance alone - how many times do you see walruses live on tv?!Portsmouth Warrior posted:

As someone who works in television and has tried with varying degrees of success to get rugby league players on to the various shows I have worked on, the problem you always face is the London centricity of the business and the attendant difficulty of convincing people to put on a league star-however articulate or legendary they may be-when they are convinced that league is a minority sport. To viewers in Yorkshire and Lancashire Andy Farrell say is a bona fide legend, to a BBC producer and therefore "viewers" he looks like a last minute booking because Phil Neville pulled out. The best bets are often ex Union stars who play league because in theory they appeal to two sports.
If we're being realistic, no rugby league player will ever get on Parky or Jonathan Ross I'm afraid, but there is no reason why they can't appear on other things. I have suggested Carney before for a programme as one of the most telly friendly of the league players and he has been close, the only problem this year is that he has hardly played and has not featured in the big matches, if GB were to win the Tri Nations and Bri were to play a big role he would be in a better position, but until that happens he ranks down below swimmers and darts pros in your average booker's eyes.
My suggestion to the RFL is to encourage the regular use of BC in the BBC RL coverage and attempt to make him into a media personality as he has the wherewithal to really do the game's image a power of good, he has to be better than Ray French after all!

In PSD (pre Sky Days) RL players were more well known due to the coverage of challenge cup games on Grandstand. My 70 year old psuedo father in law (no Sky) has been really impressed with the games the BBC have shown this season..He remembers the winter games which so often because of the weather were...how can I put it- more for the purist!
Kinda catch 22 really I think the game itself is now a better 'product' but unless you actively tune in on SKy you arent going to discover it so much by accident. Therefore the stars of the game will probably remain parochial heroes.

People, chill- this thread only started off as a fun question and then suddenly got all serious. I think we all know that RL will never get the recognition it deserves. London village is full of people playing puff ball, and thats just the way it is.
One of the other major issues is, when the BBC do show a game the coverage is crap, and I don't just mean the idiots that present it. The camera work is shocking compared to sky. (I watch SL with the sound off)
Anyway, I am happy to keep the game to the select few. If it gets too big and the money really starts to come, thats when all control is lost and we have another puffball on our hands.

In that case, I like being one of the large minorities! When Carney retires (longggggggggggggggggggggg time off yet hopefully) he'll be a great commentator if he talks slower
