Salford Conclude New Coach Search

Post by josie andrews »

The search is over and the wait for the news every Red is dying to hear is almost at an end - following an exhaustive search that quite literally spanned the globe, the Reds can today confirm that the next Head Coach has been chosen, a contract offer has been made and the club expect to make an announcement within the next seven to ten days.

Candidates based both in the UK and in Australia were interviewed for the much sought after position and it was clear from the start that the Reds job was proving highly desirable, both to established coaches and the cream of the up and coming crop of future superstar Super League and NRL bosses.

Far from struggling to find one candidate with the required qualities Reds' Directors found themselves spoilt for choice, with the standard of applicants exceptionally high. The final decision has been made though, and all that remains are the formalities of tying up the contract details.

As soon as that process is complete and the new man has signed on the dotted line Salford will reveal all, followed shortly afterwards by a world exclusive reds.co.uk interview with the brand new Salford City Reds head coach!

Who do you think it is? Comments below please!

Excellent news, I hope Salford enjoy their new coach and do well under him, they deserve it and I hope they can improve their youth development at their new stadia and facilities!

Great news for Salford. I hope they retain Phil Vievers in a role too because he has been last man standing during a very difficult period.

Peter Gentle has been offered the chance to become the new head coach of Salford City Reds, according to reports from Australia.

Reds football director Steve Simms, who is in Sydney, insists there is still no clear favourite for the job but he does admit an announcement looks imminent.

Gentle, the assistant coach of the West Tigers has had two meetings in the last week with Salford bosses.

Reds chairman John Wilkinson is now ready to return home from Australia and the club could announce the name of the new head coach to succeed Shaun McRae early next week.

Simms told MEN Sport: “This could happen but all I can say, at this stage, is everyone we’ve spoken to is capable in their own right of becoming the new head coach.

“We came out here to speak to potential targets and the talks have proved to be extremely beneficial.

“Ideally, we would like to bring in a coach sooner rather than later but if we have to wait, then so be it.”

The Sydney media claims Reds have checked out the possibility of Gentle taking charge with immediate effect but he may well have to honour his contract with Wests until the end of the year.

Gentle has been offered a new three-year deal by West - where he has spent the past six years - but has been told the club will not stand in his way if the chance to become a Super League head coach at Salford is offered to him.

In the meantime, Reds’ bosses are expected to spend the next 48 hours finalising their decision.

Should Gentle decided to accept the job, he could be in line for a three-year deal and an annual six-figure contract.

Obtaining a work permit will not be a problem due to ancestral links with the UK.

I hope so too, Big Phil has had a lot to do on his own at this difficult time for Salford.

I wish the club all the very best for the future :)
