Really hit home tonight.....

Post by TonyH »

So tonight I gave my wife a call from out here in Afghan she is already in bed, our 4 year old son is in bed next to her (silly habit she's got him in to since i left)

Anyways she said that before she went to sleep she kisses the picture she has of me on her mobile phone and says good night babe. Apparantly after she did that my 4 year old burst in to tears saying he misses his Daddy, I must admit when she told me I had a lump in my throat and it really hit home with me. Being out here for 4 months has been really tough, I'm a family man and being away from them for this amount oftime has taken its toll, so much so that I'll be leaving the forces when I get back. I want my son to settle somewhere, get friends who he can grow up with etc. Rather than living somewhere for a few years then moving on. The Military's been good to me but it's time to go and put the ones who mean most to me first.

I have no idea why I typed all that out on here but I just did it on a whim :conf:

Tony, you can rest easy mate that you've done more for this country in your four months than any of these scumbag rioters in the UK have done in their entire lives or most people come to think of it. I hope the rest of your tour goes off without a hitch and you come home safely. It's a brave and admirable move to leave the forces for the sake of your family.

I've just finished my third night shift due to these riots with another one, possibly two to go and my 2 1/2 year old is missing me. God knows how your family must be feeling.

I'll be the first to buy you an overpriced pint in the SSB once you're back!!!

Good luck mate and stay safe!

Well written Tony. You've also reminded us that all the lads out there have a similar story to tell. An 18 yo who played for our juniors is out there till December!

As kiwi stopped short of saying, your services may be needed back here before much longer!

Stay safe mate!

Well said Tony, I know exactly where you're coming from, being and ex squaddie myself, and having served in an overseas theatre
.
Keep your head down and come home safely mate. People often sympathise with the soldiers on the ground over there, especially when they've got families. But I think it's the ones left over here who have it even tougher (emotionally), if anything.
The lads and girls in theatre will be constantly busy and only have rare occasions when they can sit and dwell on loved ones left behind at home. But for the families over here, there's the uncertainty of not know exactly what's going on in theatre.

ps, why only a 4 month tour, do the RAF only do half tours these days

Cant imagine what your going through Tony must be awful to be away from your family like that, i think thats why i get so angry at these scumbags who riot and break the law.

There's hero's like you and the rest of the lads out there putting your life on the line for this country and these bastard's just abuse the rights your fighting to protect.

id personally like to thank yourself and the rest of the troops out there for what you doing for us

Nice post Tony, it takes a lot for a guy to express his feelings. It must be awful for yourself & all the other military personnel who are on foreign shores & away from their families & loved ones.

Take care, keep safe, see you when you get back :)

PS don't forget my flag

Cheers everyone. And Josie don't worry I'm getting the lads to sign it this week. :)
