Phil Clarke on Boots 'n All
According to Phil "Judas" Clarke Sam Tomkins should have been banned for 1 match "as an example". Thanks for that Phil.
Even Hemmy "I hate Wigan" Eadings didn't go that far although Stevo said 1 match ban but then moderated this by saying what's gone is gone.
Just hope the Wire Mob don't subject Sam to a torrent of abuse.

Clarkey looks after Clarkey. He learned that from Colin. I often smile at fans who believe he is biased towards Wigan.
The call for a ban is ludicrous given how many players have done likewise and the RFL have not even flinched. Had the action not been caught on TV would we even be aware of it.

Re: Phil Clarke on Boots 'n All
Top and bottom of it is, Phil is a Wigan fan, has been all his life. But he is not allowed to show that on Sky, not one bit. Look what happened when he called McGuire a cheat last year, he was completely right in what he said, because he was a cheat, but because it was 'biased' towards Wigan he got pelters. Everyone else can be biased against Wigan on live T.V, but can never be biased for them. Just shows how much we're hated really, I love it

It's good to have an end to journey towards, but it's the journey that matters in the end.
Re: Phil Clarke on Boots 'n All
I cant say I am a fan of Phil Clarke at all. I also find all his comments about the game losing young players to Rugby Union, and the poor health of the game as a whole, a little naueating when his brother Andy has been one of the prime movers in the game losing these players.

can't say it bothers me,it's just that people watching wouldn't realise
the extent of the abuse Sam was recieving from the Leeds
"fans" and I use that term loosely here.Hence the reaction
from a lot of people.
As for Phil Clarke... to quote Del boy...."What a plonker"
:sigh: P S..Isn't it great when Wigan get on peoples
nerves? HA!

Fine player but a complete tool these days. I still hear people say he's biased towards us. Unbelievable. I don't actually want bias, I want incisive and sensible comment. If Gary Neville can do it, Phil Clarke should be able to.

Why is he a 'Judas'? Because he doesn't unconditionally support stupid behaviour?BriH wrote:According to Phil "Judas" Clarke Sam Tomkins should have been banned for 1 match "as an example". Thanks for that Phil.

I agree with Phil Clarke and would like to see any player who incites a crowd banned for a match. This would have to be done in the next off season to set presidence.
Like it or not, players have a wider responsibility than the immediate game and immediate club. Provoking a crowd in a tight game could easily result in someone gettimng seriously hurt. Look at the recent championship finals in Warrington where a Halifax fan was nearly crippled by a Featherstone fan after the match. And that didn't result from any provokation from players. What could have happened with the additional flame fanning from a petulant 'V'?

Players have in the past provoked fans and nothing was done about it so why should Sam have had a one match ban.The RFL should have said in the future any player abusing the fans would face suspension.
Letters have been sent to the RL prior to Sam showing the V sign complaining about the abuse to fans Smith of Leeds actually stood on the hoardings and give the full monty double v with arm action. People on this site sent letters of complaint and nothing was done about it .So the booing of Sam at Leeds was ok then what about provoking the players is that ok.I dont agree with what Sam did but he is only a human being and can only tolerate so much abuse which IMHO will drive him to RU.
Re: Phil Clarke on Boots 'n All
Rich, your point has merit BUT if only the RFL had a past record of punishing players / coaches consistently and more so the club/RFL enforced the RESPECT policy properly upon fans.
An example this weekend; Brian McDermott criticised the Officiating process. Nothing will be done IMO Yet how is that different from Nathan Brown criticising the officiating process and being punished?

Re: Phil Clarke on Boots 'n All
Sorry I wasn't being clear.
I agree you can't single players out when others in the past have done it and nothing happened. I do think it merited a ban, but since Myler, Briers, JJB and Longy have all done it in the past (and also merited bans IMO) with no sanction it would be unfair to single out ST now. It was just higher profile because of being on the BBc and a big final.
It needs to be brought in as a bannable 'offense' in the comming off season and implemented in 2011/12 season.
