Car Park Charges

Post by veronicaashcroft »

Well, it seems Mr Whelan has found a way around paying for the "policing" problem at Latics matches. Everyone using the car parks now has to pay £2 for the privilege. Police presence at Rugby matches is minimal. Why do Rugby supporters have to pay for Latics problems.

As of Saturday 5th March (a football match day).

Takes the mickey doesn't it. The notice says that local police have suggested increased presence, that obviously doesn't mean for the rugby. However, they have said money will also go towards resurfacing, to keep us sweet no doubt. I wonder when the resurfacing will begin, I like wheelspinning on gravel :(

REDICULOUS! Which car parks are they on about? The ones around the JJB, all car parks, for both home and away fans? No one has actually specified what the change will enforce!

I got a leaflet on my car on the gravel car park near to the Soccer Dome, I very much imagine the top two car parks near the canal did too.

I would guess any that belong to the JJB, whether that includes the cinema i dont know i doubt it, but i think everyone will try to get on asda or the retail bit to avoid paying the charges

I am reliably informed that the planning permission that was granted for the JJB stadium was on the basis that the carparking was to be made free of charge at all times so as not to upset Asda and the owners of the Robin Park Retail Park.It seems that Mr Whelan feels confident that (not for the 1st time)that he can change the rules as and when he wants. If anybody knows a local councillor (even better if they are on the planning committee) ask them about this.

Asda have signs up saying no football or rugby parking, 1.5 hours max. Not sure how it's enforced though.
I can see the streets around us (Gidlow Lane area) being pretty full, if more people suss out how close it is.

Well considering the volumes of visitors this site Mike reported last week I think you can safely say a few more have sussed it

On friday I parked outside the carparks on the way down from Pemberton. There is plenty of space for now and you can walk away from the stadium out of the gridlock of the car parks without leaving early. It was a good move. My car is parked in moss side normally so I have no security worries - I'd recommend parking outside the car parks... I for one am not going to be paying a charge to park for Wigan matches. I dont know what the residents around the staduim are going to think after a while though?

The Council gave us the option last year of having 'residents only' parking - we turned it down.
