Sorry this thread is a little late, I was traveling on Friday, Saturday and most of today.
Well, I'm pretty glad I couldn't get to my computer on Friday night as I've had the chance to reflect on my words before I type them. This way I don't throw any comments like "I told you SW was not up to the job when it matters" or "Get rid now" or "He can't win the players from the neck up"
Anyway, no matter how I try to word this thread, it appears that I am having a go at SW. Well, I am. I am in total agreement with cpwigan and the likes with his comments on an earlier post.
SW is passionate about Wigan and he wants the best for our club, this I totally accept and he does wear his heart on his sleeve. I admire that.
He is simply not good enough when it matters. Sure I have been quiet over the last 13 wins, but that does NOT make a good coach. Winning matches makes for great moral off and on the field and maintaining momentum is quite easy when you're "On a roll".
What does make a great coach is how he responds when the chips are down...when the club does suffer a defeat; it's how the coach picks them up;how he prepares them for the next game. A great coach makes the wrongs right inside the players heads. He makes the doubts vanish and replaces them with belief.
The reason Wigan buckled last year was not down to the playing staff. They needed a leader during the business end of the season; the time where points didn't matter; just the win to put them one step closer. They never had that leader.
Losing to Wire wasn't something for me to slate SW about, they are a tough and credible team. What I will slate him for is the loss to Cas one week later, that total lack of his ability to lead and steady the ship.
I do not agree with the first team playing staff and their injuries being to blame. Our kids are good enough and the depth of our club should carry that; like Leeds, Wire etc.
So, I'm not going to say I told you so, but I don't see a push from here to the GF. I hope I'm wrong, but as fan I have an opinion that SW is not the man for the Head Coach. (or Logan as a hooker
