Re: Wrestling
The technique seems to have gone from being head and shoulders (NOT LITERALLY) above the rest of SL under Madge to hopeless under a clueless coach.Top Cat wrote:We dont seem to tackle players anymore we start wrestling them straight away, proper tackling technique seems to have gone out the window, we keep giving penalties away for high shots and lying on.
Re: Wrestling
Its hard to win the wrestle when you are always on the back foot and the forwards are continually outmuscled.

Re: Wrestling
We aren't wrestling well enough. We're putting opponents to floor too fast without getting them turned in the wrestle to have them land on their side/back. We were much improved in this area against Hull, but last night went back to the old ways. The third man in needs to be a little more patient when taking the legs out/barging the collision to the floor. Tautai and Clubb are particularly poor at rushing in as third man and actually resulting in a quicker play of the ball than would have been without their intervention.Top Cat wrote:We dont seem to tackle players anymore we start wrestling them straight away, proper tackling technique seems to have gone out the window, we keep giving penalties away for high shots and lying on.

Re: Wrestling
Its become a obsession wrestling , what happened to a good hard tackle, all the penalties are coming from crap tackling and arsing around on the floor.
Re: Wrestling
There has always been wrestling in RL, ever heard of the cumberland throw? RL has always been about slowing your opponents play of the ball down. The methods have altered but it has always been so.Top Cat wrote:Its become a obsession wrestling , what happened to a good hard tackle, all the penalties are coming from crap tackling and arsing around on the floor.
Re: Wrestling
Cumberland throw is a method for putting a player on the floor. Wrestling players on the floor as crept into the game .
Re: Wrestling
The Aussies are talking about stopping players wrestling on the floor . Rugby is about tackling not wrestling.
Re: Wrestling
It has always happened but historically it was cruder and termed lying on. As the rules were tightened and the game became faster then the speed of the POTB became critical so coaches come up with ways to slow down the POTB. Yes, the NRL have brought in new methods of trying to get the speed of the POTB faster. For example, the slow peel off 1 after the other after the other by tacklers is being clamped on. The coaches will adjust and come up with new ideas / techniques. You see it already now and I think Mark has already mentioned 'dancing' with the tackled player rather than putting his straight to the ground is one such technique.Top Cat wrote:Cumberland throw is a method for putting a player on the floor.
