Mac needs to improve!

Post by cpwigan »

No doubt this will upset some and I love having him in our team but for me Mac went backwards in 2015 and did not deserve the test spot. The hookers today showed you need to be a creator, a play-maker, even a kicker (Roby was excellent). Mac was once developing such skills but has regressed to simply a hard tackling never give up hooker. He is / should be better than that!

In my opinion MM has been unlucky as it is obvious that McNamara has based his selection of Hooker on Hodgeson playing in the NRL and Roby as in his opinion, he is still the best Hooker in our game.

Roby is...

Most of McNamara's selections have been spot on for once. MM's attack is no were near the standard required for England. He offers very very little.

Let's not get carried away here, that was a weakened NZ team without doubt. Playing them in their own backyard with their strongest team out I would have MM for in his defence alone and then Roby to come on and work his magic in attack as well as him still being a strong defender!! Hodgson in my opinion would get found out!!

For such a rubbish hooker he leaves a noticeable absence when Powell is subbed on. So he obviously does somthing well.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

Weakened NZ team is a bit of an exscuse. England were missing 2 Burgess with Sam coming back and a certaim full back.

England also were bedding in a new pairing at 6 and 7. Difference is fitness NZ looked gone at 60. Sign of the changes in the game. Previously GB or England were tired at that point.

Apart from off loads NZ looked poor. 2nd half was as good of an international display as you will see by a young side who will get better.

I have to agree, in the early part of the season I commented that MM was improving his game. because he was kicking the ball more, scooting more, and influencing the game more as a result. But that stopped soon after.
Now he sticks to what he does best, committing markers and first defenders, and tough tackling.
I know there's a lot more in MM, whether he's being instructed to do low risk plays or his confidence in those other areas isn't high I don't know.

Why are you suggesting I am making an excuse? Was it NZ strongest team? No! They were missing far more key players than we were, so as I said it was a weakened NZ team.

Sam Tomkins would improve us in my opinion but no where near as much as their missing players would for them. Sam Burgess currently plays a different sport so he doesn't count otherwise they were missing SBW as well!!

You are also making my point for me, NZ did tire and looked poor at times but back in their own yard with all their players fit would they then? or in a World Cup final? No chance, that is why for me MM would be priceless in our defensive line rather than Hodgson.

Will NZ not get better?
