It's an award not a requirement. Put the significance on it that you want to. The selection criteria is subjective like it is for many awards. We obviously like it more when one of ours gets it than if one of theirs does.

I think it's a shame that Bateman had his off-field activity making him miss games. He should still be in any list regardless of that in my opinion, but it has taken him out of lots of peoples minds. Another problem with subjectivity is opinions and memories are somewhat fleeting.

Hand on heart I honestly think Ben Currie has been the mos this season.
I, like Josie predicted Bateman and I still think he would have walked it but for the ban.
Currie( for me) is the perfect player to replace lockers.
