Warrington confirm Jason Clark capture

Post by josie andrews »

Warrington Wolves have completed the signing of South Sydney Rabbitohs forward Jason Clark for 2019.

Steve Price has moved to make the back-rower his first signing for next season, with Clark signing a two-year deal with the Wolves.

The 28-year-old has spent the entirety of his professional career with the Bunnies and has made over 150 appearances for the club.

He played for the Rabbitohs in their triumphant 2014 campaign, coming off the bench in the Grand Final as they defeated Canterbury.

“I’m glad to have my contract organised with Warrington and I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my career over in England,” Clark said.

“The past 11 seasons have been a young boy’s dream come true. All I’ve done is wear the red and green, and following discussions with Steve Price, Simon Moran and Karl Fitzpatrick, I’ll be able to extend my career in the primrose and blue of Warrington.

“Warrington is a similar club to Souths. They have a long and rich history which is something that attracted me to the club. Everyone I’ve spoken to says Warrington is a great club. They are very well organised, well coached and have a great playing squad. I’ve been watching them play over the past few months and they are playing an enjoyable style of football. They beat Wigan in the Challenge Cup as I was agreeing to join the club and success like that is a massive positive for me.

“They have veterans such as Ben Westwood as well as former NRL players such as Ben Murdoch-Masila, Tyrone Roberts, Sitaleki Akauola, and my mate Bryson Goodwin. Stefan Ratchford is a world-class fullback and Daryl Clark is a first-class hooker as well.”

Head coach Steve Price added: “Having coached against Jason for a number of years he typifies what we are building here at our club.

“He’s a Grand Final winner and understands what a winning culture is. He is selfless; everything is about the team on and off the field. He understands hard work and it’s players like Jason who help to make a team a success. He’s the type of player who players love playing with and Sam Burgess recently classed him as one of his greatest ever team mates.

“There’s a lot to his game as he has the ball-playing ability and an offload in there too. We feel he can bring us something different and he’s a first-class guy to go with it. We are very pleased to have signed Jason to our club from next season and he’s going to be a great acquisition.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Decent player. Probably not quite lived up to the early expectation that he would be a Souths club great, I remember him being touted as future/long-term captain of the club, but he shouldn't let Warrington down next year I don't expect.

Played for them for 11 seasons and had the fans petitioning the club to keep him on. Last time I remember that happening was with a certain George Carmont.

He's primarily a back row forward and if Bateman leaves I'd hazard a guess he's better than any we will have left (given Lockers is n his last legs). Another player I bet we didn't know was available.

On the rumours board that we have signed Joe Greenwood for next year, previously with Saints and now at the GCT.
If we have signed him then I'm not bothered in the slightest about Wire signing Clark.
Greenwood could be a very good back row player for us.

Is he? I thought he's mostly played as a prop. He's not all the same kind of player as Greenwood, at any rate.
