Wigan Walk!!!

Post by Miss RL »

I find it disgraceful that fans can walk before the end of the game. Some fans need to look at the badge!! Read the words ancient and LOYAL!!! LOYAL being the key word!!!   I found it embarrasing that the wakefield fans were singing Loyal supporters! Just cause we are losing doesn't mean we have to walk and call it a day- fans that walk should be called GLORY SUPPORTERS!!!!

For God's sake let's try to put this crap to bed once and for all.

Miss RL, you don't pay for anyone else to get into the ground, so keep your nose out of their business! What the hell has it got to do with you what other fans do? FYI Wigan fans have always left early, even in the days before you were born when we cleaned up every year. Maybe when you are a bit older and have watched the team for a few years you will realize this.

Given the standard of play this year our support has been nothing short of sensational. If you have to post, why not post in this vein?

I really am sick of these juvenile posts. "Don't leave 'till I say so", "you'd better cheer for the team or else", "show your loyalty" blah blah blah.

I have put 25 years of my time into that club and am not going to be told by some child what to do when I attend!! FYI I park a bit of a distance away from the ground and my wife finds it a bit of a pain to quickly leg it back to the car so I can drive 10 miles to my local pub for a pint and discussion about the game. In these circumstances maybe even someone as blinkered as you would concede that I have a valid reason for leaving early. As it happens I don't, put maybe the point I am trying to make is permeating your grey matter.

I share your tedium at this sort of post. If that is Miss RL in her avatar, then she doesn't appear to be old enough to have done a day's work before going to the game.

Working 30 miles away from the JJB until 5.30 means that I don't have time for a proper meal before getting to the game. Now if they've won or deserve applause then I'll sometimes risk having to spend half an hour queueing to get off the car park and not getting home till near 11.00. If I'm disgusted with a last minute decision to cost us the game like Friday, or with a performance like against UTC, then I won't.

If that is the thing that is bothering Miss RL most about this season (as it would seem to be, being in her first 3 posts) then she doesn't have much to say about anything. Some of us deserve credit for getting there every week. My season ticket will be getting renewed wherever we finish. Apparently, I'm a glory hunter because I might miss a total of 15 minutes rugby throughout the season. B%!!%(ks.

Dont hold back lads say what u mean! lol

Its fair comment to say people have good reasons for leaving early. But you have to admit some people will only leave early depending on the score. I can understand your frustration, but remember young fans are important to the game as well as long standing fans.

I think its good for young people to express an interest in the game and want to join in on here. I think sometimes abit of holding back wouldnt hurt

I agree. The problem is, you can never know who genuinely has to walk out and who is walking out just cos they're annoyed by the score. But that's why I think other people shouldn't confront fans walking out. It's intimidating and unfair. Some people have genuine reasons for walking out early - no one has the right to belittle them because of that.

Jimmy, Alex you miserable pair. Try sharing some of the youthful enthusiasm MrsRL is bringing. It does make a difference when the fans get behind the team, it where the term 'home advantage' comes from. It can't be good to see the fans walking off before the end, may even have something to do with us throwing so many games away at the end, you never know!?!

When fans walk away before the end it always makes me think of kids throwing their toys out of the pram. 'If my team can't win then I'm going home to sulk.' That's just my opinion and I suspect one MrsRL shares. I'm sorry Alex I work all week and travel 150 miles each way to watch Wigan, I don't get in until half past midnight and haven't missed a game this season yet I've never missed the end of a Wigan game. Some people just like to make excuses!

The point is Rob that no-one needs to make excuses for any of their reasonable behaviour at the game. They have paid their own money and are entitled to do what they want. I've offered this point before, but what's the difference between someone who misses the last 5 mins of a game by leaving early and someone who goes to the bar and/or toilet during the game?

EDIT: Also, the tone of the original post was such that it invited the response it got! What's with all the shouting and multiple emoticons?

Granted, (although I felt Alex was trying to make excuses) but as Fraggle brought up before I pay my money to watch 80 minutes of RL and don't want to have my view obstructed by people going the bar/toilet/home early. It's a pain in the neck.

Teenage girls like that kind of thing!

I agree, Jimmy and Alex, one day you wont be around to support your team, and youngsters will be !!! I think it is great that young people go to the games and get involved in posts on ere !!!! At the end of the day at least if they are at the JJB they are safer than hanger around the streets and some making a nuisance of themselves !!

Leave them alone !

I dont see what all the fuss is about. I have been going to the games since 1985, and we have always had fans leaving early, as does every single sporting team in the land. I went to watch Man Utd v Chelsea in the last game of the season at Old Trafford (free tickets, I dont usually pay to watch kissball) and with 10 mins to go there were literally only 30,000 fans left inside. Now that's what I call a mass exodus. At wigan people always leave early and for different reasons, I like to go to my local with my wife and mates to talk about the match etc. On friday I stayed til after the whistle and as a result only got home at 11:00pm, which considering I only live in Goose Green is a bit crap. I think it's great that so many kids go to watch the match as they are the future of the club. But, what is frustrating is when they are just running around and the fans are up and down like a jack-in-the box for the full 80 mins. I just wish they would sit and watch the game like the rest of us. Be proud of who you are supporting, I am, and have been since I first sat on the roof of the old concrete dugout at Central Park, when my dad took me to my first match, Wigan - Manly. Roll on the future :eusa2:
