Adrian Lam names the Wigan Warriors squad to face St Helens on Friday.

Oliver Partington and Sam Halsall come back into the squad.

Wigan Warriors v St Helens, Friday 20th August, DW Stadium, K.O. 7:45pm. Buy your tickets NOW!

Adrian Lam has named the Wigan Warriors 21-man squad to face St Helens in The Derby this Friday in Betfred Super League Rivals Round.

The Warriors host local rivals Saints in The Derby Worth Waiting For at the DW Stadium, aiming to get back to winning ways following last week’s defeat to Hull KR.

Team news

There are two changes to last week’s squad as Sam Powell and Umyla Hanley both miss out and Oliver Partington and Sam Halsall both come in.

As suggested by head coach Lam this week, Powell is not in the squad after he left the field with concussion in the opening two minutes last week and failed a HIA. Meanwhile, Partington returns following his two-match suspension.

Hanley makes way for Halsall, who played for Newcastle Thunder on dual registration against Bradford Bulls last weekend.

Brad Singleton will serve the final game of his three-match ban for a Grade C (Punching) offence in Wigan’s win over Leigh in Round 17.

Injury news

As confirmed on Tuesday, Thomas Leuluai will miss the rest of the 2021 season after suffering a hamstring injury against Leigh at the start of August.

Bevan French continues to recovery back home in Australia from a long-term hamstring injury.

Wigan Warriors squad to face St Helens:

SAINTS SQUAD NAMED FOR THE DERBY!

Kristian Woolf has named his 21 man squad ahead of Friday's derby against Wigan Warriors at the DW Stadium (7:45pm).

Tommy Makinson misses out after he picked up a ban against Castleford Tigers last week, which was reduced last night to two games.

Morgan Knowles is back in the squad in place of Makinson.

The only other change sees the returning Jake Wingfield in for Ben Davies.

Kristian Woolf spoke to the media yesterday as he previewed Friday’s huge game which is also live on Sky Sports.

I don’t know why Clark has even been named in the squad, he told me today he wasn’t playing! 🤬

We are playing a team with, not only big forwards but in other positions as well! We need our best team, not ones that are tired, who have been playing week in week out, some for 80 minutes, we could see last Friday the majority of our players are clearly knackered & burnt out!

That is, to me anyway, the coaches selection & the rotation of the bench which definitely needs to be better.

I do not like to be negative or be a stadium seat coach, but I’m just fed up watching the same thing at home & away games.

We have enough forwards/players in our squad to be able to rotate them all & give them all game time.

It’s no wonder players want away when we insist on playing the same players week in week out! Unless of course there is an injury!

Talk about if your face fits! It shouldn’t matter about personal differences but on a players ability & not whether the coach likes a player or not!!

I’ve seen this happen several times over the years!!

Is it me or did the third saints player just try and injure Marshall, I can't see what other than a arm swing he added.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.
