No new signings.

Post by buddyboy »

:doz: Its official no more new signings.

Question. Will this make us a better team than last season.

Answer. Yes but not enough to take us into the top 3.

Solution. A MAJOR new signing was required preferably in the back line standoff/centre.

Result. 3rd or 4th position as we were 2 or 3 seasons ago.

You may be right but given the wheels had well and truly come off that is going in the right direction.

I said ages ago it would take Millward two seasons to get the side he wants and I think the announcement that no one else is coming in says he has done as much as he can this time arund given the constraints of the current players contracts, 20/20 and salary cap.

I think he will imporve the team again at the end of next season.

At the end of the day you need a lot of luck with injuries to win SL. The injury situation played a big role in Bradfords success. Leeds lost Senior - a key player for them and Saints were without Long, Sculthopre, Albert and Hooper.

Bradford had injuroes ealry on in the season and faltered but they had a "normal" amouint of injuroes, were able to keep in touch and then found themselves with a full squad for the playoffs unlike the teams above them.

If we found ourselves in a similar situation to Bradford in third there is no reason why the squad we have culd not string together the wins required to go all the way.

Dave
He will have all 3 import places to play with at the end of this season, Seuseu, Moran and Dallas are all off contract.

Seuseu wont be offered another deal if he has another season like the last one. Moran is being quoted as saying he is retiring, why I dont know he is only 28. Dallas is retiring and his spot will be definate.

Good point, Chris..hadn't thought that far ahead, but yeah, you're right.
About time the speculation started for those three spots! How about Gower, Gasnier and SBW?

Seuseu is off quota, our quota players are Dallas, Moran and Fletcher. I imagine Moran will go at the end of the season unless he improves dramatically, Dallas will retire but Fletcher will be here for 2007, leaving us with probably 2 quota spaces to fill.

I am too disappointed in no new signings. I feel our backs are strong but have no depth and another 1-2 players in the starting backs and we are back to the same as last season. Im pretty confident in the forwards, just the backs. Gleeson is looking good and you never know next season he might be 6ft+ and 15 stone. :P

Anyone remember the friendly game at orrel when tickle hock and lockers came on the pitch and were HUGE. Someone had been feeding them raw meat. Lets hope some more youngsters come back looking bigger, and we hope lockers and co come back even bigger.

I can't really believe everyone is taking this "no new signings" anouncement so seriously. They have been saying that squad building for next season is complete since June or something...

If we do get a new signing, they will deny it until it is officially announced, as they have to due to contractual reasons.

Personally, I'm more inclined to believe Millwards "7 new signings" was a genuine slip of the tongue, that revealed the truth (because that is a nicer truth for me to believe in).

hehe, it MUST be because the RFL have just scrapped the overseas quota and all salary cap restrictions and we're buying out the NRL!
