Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Re: Willie Isa
Isa signs one-year extension
* Willie Isa has signed a one-year contract extension with the Club.
* Forward enters his 10th season with the Warriors.
* Deal sees Isa remain at the Club for the 2025 Betfred Super League season.
WIGAN WARRIORS CAN CONFIRM THAT WILLIE ISA HAS SIGNED A ONE-YEAR EXTENSION TO REMAIN WITH THE CLUB FOR THE 2025 BETFRED SUPER LEAGUE SEASON.
Isa, who will turn 36 on 1st January has been recovering from the serious ankle injury sustained at Castleford in April 2024.
The Auckland-born second row forward, who debuted for Wigan in Round one of the 2016 season, has played a total of 209 games for the Cherry and Whites scoring 17 tries. He is a two-time Grand Final winner as well as a 2024 World Club Challenge from whom the team will undoubtedly benefit from his vast leadership experience.
Commenting on the contract extension, Willie Isa said: “I’m happy to continue to build on my game and on my leadership within the team & the club.
“I’m always grateful and privileged to be in the position I’m in professionally and in my life right now. As always, I’d like to say thank you for the continued support from our loyal supporters of our great club.”
Warriors Head Coach Matt Peet said: “Retaining Willie for another season is a really important signing for the Club. He has plenty left to give on the field, he is the ultimate competitor.
“His leadership and influence on the environment is massive and I am delighted that it will continue.
“The way he has conducted himself this season since his injury, his relentless attitude to his rehabilitation as well as his positivity in and around the squad just proves the kind of Club man that he is.”

Re: Willie Isa
I think Matt Peet summed it up perfectly. It will be good to see Willie pull on the shirt in 2025.
Re: Willie Isa
Good news for Isa, but I am not as convinced about it as others seem to be.
Nothing against him, he's been a great player for us, but don't really see where he fits in, when Walters can't even get in the team, cover I suppose.

I feel big Willie’s help and influence can only help the younger lads in the squadCharriots Offiah wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 5:35 pm I think Matt Peet summed it up perfectly. It will be good to see Willie pull on the shirt in 2025.

Re: Willie Isa
Willie had a few knockers, but, when he was out at the start of last season, our right edge defence was struggling. He came back and it settled down surprisingly quickly. The doubters seemed to quieten down after that.
Also don't underrate the Matt Peet philosophy of team togetherness, "having each others' backs". Just as Hardaker had to go, Big Willie's commitment, desire, leadership and example to the young uns is clearly part of the thinking behind this extension.
We all like the talented razzle-dazzle stars, but every team needs it's solid steady players. I brought my lads up to appreciate the likes of Ian Potter and Brian Case, as well as Offish, Edwards, Gregory. Every great team needs a Willie Isa or two.

Hampshire having an old head proved to be a good influence on the reserves. I can see Isa doing a similar job.
