The one thing that Junior Nsemba puts his Wigan Warriors success down to

Post by josie andrews »

Wigan Warriors star Junior Nsemba has explained what he puts his success down to, following his side’s semi-final victory.

The Warriors blew Leigh Leopards away to reach the Super League Grand Final, putting them to the sword in a 38-0 victory.

The Leopards had won 11 of their last 13 games, including an eliminator victory over Salford Red Devils, but were nilled at the Brick Community Stadium.

Starring yet again was Junior Nsemba in the second row, in his first full Super League season and he was recognised for that last night as he was named as the Young Player of the Year across the competition in 2024.

Still only 20 years-old, he has a Challenge Cup victory under his belt and will surely make his first Grand Final appearance on Saturday.

Junior Nsemba puts his Wigan Warriors success down to one thing

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Nsemba said: “I’m a Christian so I thank God for everything and I thank my mum and dad for keeping me grounded as well as the coaches for getting me where I am, so I’m pretty happy with how the year’s gone. Now, onto next week.

What do you put your success down to?: ” The coaches, I’ve been with Matty since I was young, since I was in scholarship and he’s kept me under his wing and he’s taught me everything I know alongside Tommy (Leuluai).

“When we play Hull KR, it’s always a good match and you never know which way it’s going to go.

“We’re just going to put our heads down and train this week and see what happens.”

Speaking to the BBC, he also said: “I’ve enjoyed this year, I thank the coaches and the boys for getting me through it.

“It’s good that I’m sealed down here (with a new contract), I thank the fans, they lift us up. I’m here for another six years, playing for my home town club.”

Asked whether he was interested in following players such as Lewis Dodd and Matty Nicholson to NRL, he said: “I’m not thinking too far ahead, I’ll concentrate on this six years first and then see what happens.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Who wrote that headline?
Junior puts his success down to three things. His faith, parents and coaches.
Good to see he won the Young Player of the Year at the awards.
Fully deserved!

Wow, what a talent.

The amazing thing is if you look at Junior in the Academy/Reserves you'd think of him as a wide running 2nd row. This season he has shown he can tackle, run straight, support and hit hard - and he can still run wide and break through.

Plenty of players point to their religion.

I find it hard to reconcile intelligence with the belief in a religion, so, wonderful player though he seems to be becoming, it's a question mark against him from me.

Small one, but a mark nontheless.
