Super League's free agents: players without a contract ahead of 2025 season

Post by josie andrews »

There's still plenty of talent on Super League's open market.

Super League is well into the off-season but there's still plenty of players looking for a deal, and clubs looking for further additions to their squad. Here, we take a look at the players who are still without a deal heading into 2025.

Waqa Blake (Wing/centre)
Blake is on the lookout for a new club after one season at St Helens, who decided not to renew his contract. Love Rugby League has reported that Blake has been offered around UK clubs once again next year. He played 24 games for Saints, scoring eleven tries.

Josh Drinkwater (Halfback)
A Super League stalwart with heaps of experience at this level, Drinkwater is on the lookout for a club after leaving Warrington Wolves. The 32-year-old has 194 Super League appearances to his name, having represented the Wire, Catalans, Hull KR, Leigh and London.

Jacob Gannon (Second-row)
The 22-year-old is without a club after leaving Leigh Leopards. The Halifax-born talent is coming off the back of a season where he has accumulated plenty of Championship experience, playing 16 times for York in a campaign that saw them reach the play-off semi-finals.

Ryan Hampshire (Utility back)
Hampshire has departed Wigan Warriors after two seasons and is now on the lookout for a club where he can play regularly, having acted as a backup for the Super League champions. Proven in multiple positions, Hampshire is still only 29 and has plenty to offer.

Konrad Hurrell (Centre)
There's some uncertainty over the St Helens centre, who is still without a club next season. A neck issue is still being monitored and in the meantime, Saints are looking at the market. There is a reality where he could remain at the club, but as it stands, he's without a deal.

Matt Ikuvalu (Centre)
Released by Catalans Dragons, Ikuvalu has unfortunately torn his pec, which will come with a lengthy layoff that may hurt his chances of getting a contract. That said, he has scored 12 tries in 37 games for Catalans and carved out a decent reputation.

Luis Johnson (Back-row)
The 25-year-old is without a deal after his departure from Castleford Tigers and will be hoping to get his career going with some regular game time this year. He still has plenty of potential.

Jacob Jones (Back-row)
After getting a full season under his belt with London Broncos, back-rower Jones has Super League experience under his belt, which stands him in good stead after his release from parent club, Leigh Leopards.

Rhys Kennedy (Prop)
Former Hull KR prop Kennedy stood out for the Broncos in his one season in the capital. The Australian has been a consistent performer during two seasons in Super League and with a shortage of middles available, he may prove to be an attractive proposition.

Sami Kibula (Prop)
Kibula has left Castleford after six appearances in his one season with the club. Offering huge size, the 25-year-old would certainly make any pack bigger.

Ricky Leutele (Centre)
Arguably the biggest name on the free market, Leutele has been a top performer in Super League during five seasons in the competition. He's 34 now but there has been no sign of regression and will surely play on next season.

Tim Nisbet (Utility)
Another released by Leigh, Nisbet appears in need of a club that secures him a regular spot in the team. He hasn't nailed down a specialist position during his time with the Leopards, but a change of scenery may change that.

Luis Roberts (Centre/Wing)
Still only 22, Roberts has amassed plenty of top-flight experience after two seasons with Leeds and will be hoping to put that to good use moving forward. He's still got plenty of improvement in him and showed some good signs at Headingley.

Adam Sidlow (Prop)
Sidlow confirmed to Rugby League Live last month that he intends to play next season, albeit outside of Super League. He wants to pursue a coaching career and play at the same time. He's a proven winner at Championship level.

Robbie Storey (Centre)
The London Broncos talent got his first full season in Super League this term and he showed he had strike with the ball in hand. He had a good year with Keighley in the Championship in 2023 and won't be without offers.

Mitieli Vulikijapani (Wing)
The Hull FC winger didn't play this year after a serious injury suffered the year before. It is unclear what the future holds now.

Alex Walker (Fullback)
Walker has accumulated Super League knowledge after stints with the likes of Wakefield Trinity and, most recently, London Broncos. The Scotland international has plenty of talent and will be hoping to get a new deal soon.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

should we be putting a cheeky play in for Waqa Blake. I'm sure he'd really compliment our backline .... (NOT)

i bet the Saints fans are so relieved they have let him go, as he's been bloody awful to watch (as a Wigan fan, i almost felt sorry for some of my Saints friends when i was watching him play :) :) )

I still see the tweets when I see the name Waqa Blake. They were going mad on twitter. Apparently he was going to be the best centre of the super league era

A couple of years back, Leutele would have been of interest to us but not now. Still could be a decent short-term signing for someone.

yep, pity he's at the back end of his career, and we are comfy at centre at the minute

Why do fans throw Davico under the bus like this? He picked up a pectoral injury before the start of the season and as a result did not play a game for us. Did this make him a "bad" player????

Steve Rogers, one time Australian test player broke his leg on debut for Widnes against us at Central Park. By your cock-eyed reckoning he must be "the worst overseas signing ever"!

Surely they must be the "unluckiest" - and as such nothing to do with them being crap as per the likes of Doc Murray or Shem, Tatupu etc etc etc

For me it is the worst signing as he never played a full game, never said he was crap, for me the crapest would go to either Brady Malem or Wayne McDonald, although Danny Moore and Gavin Clinch are up there as well
