The records of every Super League coach.
Super League will see two brand new head coaches—Danny McGuire and John Cartwright—try their luck in the competition in 2025, with another, Daryl Powell, returning to the topflight with Wakefield Trinity. But who is the longest-serving and who has the best win percentages at their current club? Here, Rugby League Live takes a dive into the numbers.
Super League's longest serving coaches
12. Danny McGuire: Castleford Tigers, 2025
Castleford parted ways with Craig Lingard last week and have since confirmed the appointment of Danny McGuire. He will be joined by Brett Delaney, who has left Hull KR to become his assistant.
11. John Cartwright: Hull FC, 2025
The Black and Whites confirmed the appointment of John Cartwright back in June. He had been working as an assistant coach at Brisbane Broncos with Hull his first head coach role since leaving Gold Coast Titans in 2014.
10. Daryl Powell: Wakefield Trinity, 2024
Powell joined Wakefield ahead of the 2024 Championship campaign, with the former Leeds player leading them to a second-tier treble. They will return to Super League next season.
9. Brad Arthur, Leeds Rhinos, 2024
Games 10. Win %: 50
Leeds appointed Brad Arthur back in July, with the Australian coach agreeing to another year at Headingley in 2025. He saw some improvements in his side in the summer, with the challenge now to make the top six for the first time in three years.
8. Luke Robinson, Huddersfield Giants, 2024
Games: 11. Win %: 36
The former player took interim charge after the club parted ways with Ian Watson in July, before making his role permanent for 2025 and beyond.
7. Sam Burgess: Warrington Wolves, 2024
Games: 32. Win %: 71
Warrington made the Challenge Cup final and Super League semi-final in Burgess’ debut year, with the club and coach determined to go one better in 2025.
6. Paul Wellens: St Helens, 2023
Games: 61. Win %: 63
A club legend as a player, Wellens made the step up to head coach after Kristian Woolf’s departure at the end of 2022 and won the World Club Challenge at Penrith in one of his first games in charge. However, a disappointing 2024 season and sixth-place finish has put the pressure on with Lee Briers joining the club as Wellens' assistant for 2025.
5. Adrian Lam, Leigh Leopards, 2023
Games: 62. Win %: 59
*doesn't include 2022 season in Championship
After gaining promotion to Super League, the former Wigan boss guided Leigh to a first major trophy since 1982, with Challenge Cup glory coming at Wembley in 2023. Lam has also made the play-offs in both of his top-flight seasons at the Leythers so far.
4. Willie Peters, Hull KR, 2023
Games: 64. Win %: 67
Peters guided the Robins to their best ever season in Super League this year, finishing second and reaching the Grand Final. They also reached the Challenge Cup final last year after finishing fourth.
3. Paul Rowley, Salford Red Devils, 2022
Games: 88. Win %: 51
Rowley will coach his fourth and final year at Salford before moving to a Director of Rugby role in 2026. He has led Salford to two play-off finishes so far in his three years in charge.
2. Matt Peet: Wigan Warriors, 2022
Games: 98. Win %: 77
Wigan promoted Matt Peet from the academy to the club’s first-team ahead of 2022. The rest is history. He won the Challenge Cup in his first season as head coach before starting a run in 2023 that has seen Wigan win the last six trophies on offer. A serial winner.
1. Steve McNamara, Catalans Dragons, 2017
Games: 211. Win %: 57
Super League’s longest-serving coach by some distance, McNamara kept Catalans up after his appointment in June 2017, winning the Million Pound Game against Leigh. He then won the Challenge Cup in 2018, with Catalans also making two Super League Grand Finals in 2021 and 2023.
Win percentage alone
1. Matt Peet, 2022: 77%
2. Sam Burgess, 2024: 71%
3. Willie Peters, 2023: 67%
4. Paul Wellens, 2023: 63%
5. Adrian Lam, 2023: 59%
6. Steve McNamara, 2017: 57%
7. Paul Rowley, 2022: 51%
8. Brad Arthur, 2024: 50%
9. Luke Robinson, 2024: 36%
No surprises to see Matt Peet at the top of the pile, with Sam Burgess also enjoying a strong first season at Warrington Wolves. The stern job Willie Peters has done at Hull KR is also highlighted here, with Paul Wellens making up the top four.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
