Liam Byrne to Wire?
Re: Byrne to Wire in 2026
If true then let's hope we bring a very good player to replace him and not promote a youngster who isn't quite up to the task

Gutted about that, he’s a good lad & player. He carried us on his own for the majority of the 2023 season through injuries & suspensions to our forwards that season!
I’m sorry to see him leave, another of our academy leaving for Wire!
He used to cycle from his home in Salford for training & games when he was in the academy, that shows his commitment to Wigan.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

If he can get a better offer good luck to the lad it’s a short career. It’s one position we are well blessed with. Havard, Thompson, Mago and Dupree. And we have Harvey Hill and Makin coming through. We should be able to make better use of his salary to cover the outside backs

This feels way too early to be doing deals for 2026. How long are the transfer windows in other sports. Doesn't seem right to be reading about a player leaving with a whole season left at his old club.
For Byrne, it maybe the right move, although I was hoping he'd kick on and become that consistent dominant prop that he has the potential to be this year. Good luck to him.

It’s whatever is best for Liam.
I guess it’s just a healthy rotation from Wigan. New blood coming through and something different.

Re: Liam Byrne to Wire?
I appreciate everything he has done for the club, part of the historic year last year, but I don’t think he is a great loss. He makes too many mistakes and just doesn’t seem to have what it takes at the moment. There are 4 other props clearly in front of him and Hill is pushing past him as well imo. A move is probably what he needs.
