Imagine i am new to the sport of Rugby League . I've listened to the hype its a new season last years all conquering team take on there nearest rivals in front of a packed out stadium, there's fireworks lazers flames and then the game . A bloke runs up the middle of the field with the ball 3 or 4 blokes from the opposite team jump on him squirm about for what seems like ages get up and then its repeated for another 5 times . The ball is then kicked to the other team who then do the same thing . Unbelievable this goes on for 80 minuets . If this type of game goes on for the rest of the season then the talk of expanding the game to new ordinances is never going to happen . Can you imagine what the Yanks would think if this was served up in Las Vegas

It sounds like American Football, should be great for them

But yes I do agree with the style of play last night.

If Bevan or Jai can't provide that bit of individual brilliance, we seem completely lost.

Hope we get better at adapting to good defensive teams, without over reliance on Bevan and Jai.

Last night v Leigh was a throwback to the 1950s and60s with unlimited tackles. A forward slog with one or two interruptions from the backs where a try or two might be scored.
Mid sixties saw the introduction of the four tackle rule which a few years later became the six tackle rule.
The whole basis was to make the game faster and more exciting to watch.

The six tackle rule has been a success with Rugby League now being a fast exciting sport to watch.

The game v Leigh wasn't fast and exciting. It was slow, frustrating and overall not what we want to see. As a one off OK but if that is the style of play for the 2025 season then crowd numbers will shrink fast. The messing around at the ptb was dreadful with Moore going along with it fully by allowing it all night. There were no 6 agains which was deliberate match management by the referee.

As a one off OK and Leigh probably deserved the win. Wigan didn't take their few chances and two men in the bin doesn't help.

A great opening night, well done to all who put on a truly excellent marketing exhibition.

I’d say it was one of the worst attacking performances I’ve seen under Peet’s stewardship devoid of ideas now let’s be fair it’s the first game of the season and both teams looked out of sorts so I’m not prepared to start thinking the bubble has burst but vegas is a huge distraction and will impact the games once they’re back of that I’m sure so that will be a huge test of Peet’s management skills.

Wardle looked knackered and he’s another big attack threat for Wigan but he just didn’t look himself but he will get better so no need for panick stations just yet

It was just a bit of game management that cost them, Jai not releasing the ball wide which bombed a try and why with 90 seconds left on the last tackle in front of the sticks did Harry Smith go left instead of going for the one pointer. I’m sure things will get better but yes the Vegas trip will be a massive distraction

Jury is out on Vegas as a distraction, we will get a much better idea at Hull after their win in France.

Have to say Hull were very good the other night,looked fit and well drilled now of course it’s the first game of course but given how shocking Hull were at all points last season they really are vastly improved time though will be injuries hit etc,not saying they’ll be troubling the top come September but way better than last year.

I think its time we practiced on french and smith putting players through gaps.Walters will be awesome if we can find a way to use him on the right edge.Leeds managed it easily enough
