Davies: Chance to test yourself

Post by josie andrews »

* Wigan Warriors Women’s winger Anna Davies is relishing the opportunity of travelling to Las Vegas with England Women.

* Davies: “We’ve looked at the schedule, it’s very full and we might not see a lot of City but I’m still looking forward to enjoying a different place.”

* 8 teams. 4 games – Las Vegas are you ready?!

ANNA DAVIES IS RELISHING HER OPPORTUNITIES AFTER BEING SELECTED IN STUART BARROW’S 20-PLAYER TRAVELLING SQUAD TO TAKE ON THE AUSTRALIAN JILLAROOS AT ALLEGIANT STADIUM, LAS VEGAS NEXT WEEKEND.

England Women will face the Jillaroos (6pm PDT*) in the third game of the afternoon at Allegiant Stadium, following Wigan Warriors historic clash against Warrington Wolves at 1.30pm* (PDT).

Speaking on her selection in the travelling squad, Davies said: “I’m personally really excited and delighted about the news. It’s a difficult thing with a squad of 30 being reduced to 20, you know how hard the whole training group has been working but I’m grateful for the opportunity.

“Nothing is ever guaranteed so what I’ve done from the start is to just give my all in England camp and working hard at Robin Park too under Denis Betts. There’s definitely things I can still learn and try and improve my position on the wing. There’s been lots of hard work but I’m feeling fit, strong and in a good shape so I’m just really looking forward to it now.”

On facing the Jillaroos at Allegiant Stadium: “I’d play the Jillaroos on a muddy pitch anywhere,” the winger joked.

“I love the idea of the competition, the chance to compete against Australia is a real chance to test yourself against some of the best in the World, a physical challenge but one I’m really looking forward to.”

She added: “The Stadium itself is incredible. It’s exciting when there’s fans, when it’s loud – we play in varying different conditions but when there’s a good crowd at the game it is the time you feel the most alive and energised. I saw the inside of it on a picture the other day and it was the first time I’ve felt a bit nervous.”

Davies is also looking forward to the travelling Wigan support, who will be packed into the stadium as the Warriors take on the Wolves in the first game of the day, prior to the Women’s showdown: “I’ve got mates going, colleagues from the Community Foundation, so the fact that they’ll be there to watch both games will be nice for myself and Jenna [Foubister] too.

“The Club support me so well, so to know that they’re going to be there is a personal reassurance on this journey.”

On visiting Las Vegas: “Las Vegas is not somewhere I’d have ever thought of going. We’ve looked at the schedule, it’s very full and we might not see a lot of City but I’m still looking forward to enjoying a different place, there’s lots of media engagements and red carpet events in the build-up so it’s important that we enjoy those things but also work hard ahead of the game on Saturday.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
