I'd be interested to know if any coach has peformed as badly as Millwood in
the last 10 years or so?
What exactly are Millwood's stats? Surely as Millwood has been the most
consistent loosing coach for Wigan in my memory (Been watching since Eddie
Waring was a boy...) should give Maurice Lindsay the opportunity to announce
to the press "Millwood has my fullest backing" - and get rid of him
soonest! What coach (for Wigan) has allowed so many points against Wigan in
so few games? (even conceding their current table deficit doesn't look as
bad as the 3 teams below?). Can no-one else see he has appalling abilities
as a coach - he can't motivate a reasonably good squad to play their best.
Wigan go through the motions - and Millwood says their play was "fantastic".
What is fantastic about a defeat like that one from Warrington? Wayching
Wigan this season (and end of last) is like watching how Wakefield, London,
Huddersfield or Salford played a few years ago - any opposition knew all
they had to do was attack and they could win the game. Endacot taught Wigan
good defence - but without Wigan's attack and resultant wins the management
soon moved him on. Isn't it time to get rid of Millwood?

You can't blame Millward for everything? Ask yourself a few questions:
Is O'Loughlin really a Captain - I've been to every game so far this season and he hasn't lead by example or rallied the troops when their heads are down.
Vaeliki - just what does he do? Never seen him set Dallas off down the wing. His work rate is appalling.
Halfbacks - Moron and Doh! - Wigan have never scraped so low in the barrel. We let our best prospect Luke R go to Salford (who are playing with passion and a desire to compete (not just win)), i'd settle for a bit of passion from our lads.
Brown - what happened to the lad that broke through skints defence a couple of years back - does he know how to pass?
Oh! and who's the undertaker that stands around kicking the dust when the lads are warming up - where does he earn his corn?
Maybe I'm just depressed or feel I should get some value for money when I go to watch. On Friday we camped out on warringtons line for thirty odd minutes and did nowt! They came up our end and scored twice. Shipping 12 points in less minutes doesn't bode well. Lee Briers really did take the mickey out of us and it's not as though he has developed and new style of play, he has played like that all his life and we still couldn't manage him.
We are so ordinary with no playmakers.God help us next week. :conf:

Re: Time for Millwood to move ...
Half the trouble with Wigan is that we have had too many coaches over the years, most of whom have had to coach players that they haven't chosen themselves but who have been brought in by a committee of one - don't get me wrong I think Maurice Lindsay has done many great things for this club but I do wish he would leave the selection of players to the coaching staff. In Ian Millward we have the chance of a new dawn and we are all in a bit of a state of shock as we were expecting such a good start this year but to suggest that it is time for the coach to move on is nothing short of lunacy. I was as gutted as anyone on Friday night but I've calmed down now and just listened to the GMR phone it emphasised the fact that other clubs have had to put up with starts like this for years - we're just not used to it at Wigan (and I wouldn't want us to get used to it) but it has happened and we will just have to get on with it and give the team our full support and stop carping. As soon as they get a win they'll get some confidence back and it'll go from strength to strength and it'll be sweet
Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Yup I'd agree with OJ... as I've said we are still about 5/6 players short. Millward is a good coach but he's not magician.
He can only field what he can. OK you may not like his chopping and changing but it's his perogative to do that in order to find his best men.
You can't adopt the attiude of well play the same 13 week in week out let them bond and gel.
In GAA here, if you are not playing well you get the line after a few minutes. In hurling especially you miss two balls and that's it. You're moved from that position, may get a stay of execition in another, one more mistake and it's time for a sub.
Let me tell you it works... there's no time for gelling and bonding and cal it what you like, it's on the field and deliver.
IM will find his feet this year and his player then next year he will bring in more of his own players and we will progress.

Re: Time for Millwood to m...
What is annoying me the most about Millward (and I am ignoring the constant team shuffling and insistence on playing brown) is that he doesn't seem bothered about our current situation.
After Friday's woeful performance he should have been spitting feathers - instead of which he commends us for our defence - we shipped two tries in the first half after being on the attack for 30 minutes??!
For those who watched Salford's match on sky - Millward was joking with Phil Clarke about Wigan's position, to say he didn't seem bothered was an understatement!
He should be hanging his head in shame

Whatever is said in the media and on sky or in any public forum you can take as staged.
He's not going to go on Sky and concede the rest of the season.
If anyone of the other clubs were to be fooled by Millwards care free attitude then well done Milly.
I'm sure the air was all shades of blue in the dressing room as was the corridor, but Millward is not going to publicly go on and admit that he is wrong and Wigan are trype and he shouldn't go on...blah blah blah... let him go on and have the craic with Phil Clarke. He has to show a public face that he is in control.

Okee, if he's not then why is Millward making him captain? That is surely his fault.big ears posted:

Again, as the coach shouldn't he be inspiring him and coaching him to be creative and stop being lazy. They need to get this inspiration from their coach and their captain, so as said above this is Millys fault.Vaeliki - just what does he do? Never seen him set Dallas off down the wing. YeahHalfbacks - Moron and Doh! - Wigan have never scraped so low in the barrel.

Mentioned this in another post elsewhere. There was no room for Luke in our team at the time. He wouldn't have got a place ahead of Lammy, he was far too good to leave out and it wouldn't have been fair to leave Luke on the bench as he was potentially a good player. He deserved to have a first team place elsewhere, it's just unlucky that we haven't found anyone who's played to that ability since. We let our best prospect Luke R go to Salford (who are playing with passion and a desire to compete (not just win)), i'd settle for a bit of passion from our lads.
Seems to be the only player Millward wants to actually take time out for. Probably cause he's a st helenser. I don't think hes doing too badly, as I've said before I'll judge him when he's had a consistent first team place. At least he's not lazy.Brown - what happened to the lad that broke through skints defence a couple of years back - does he know how to pass?
The team is coached by this man and he should be installing some sort of passion and pride into their heads. There's nothing. They are completely clueless in attack and defense and the sad thing is they're not bad players, they just don't believe in themselves or the club and neither do I.

Every team has its best 17 players. If oneo f them gets injured or if one is being challenged by an up and coming player you might see a new face every now and again.
But what you don't get is whole sale changes in key positions every week.
Millward made more out of last seasons squad than this and I think it was because he had no scope to chop and change due to the injuries.
Well RL isn't GAA or hurling and do thay have a system that says you can only have 20 players on over £20K or similar? I mean what sort of squad do thay have and how much strength in depth? Outside of the top 20 in RL you are into kiddie country and so if you want experience on the park you will pick the same core players week in, week out.In GAA here, if you are not playing well you get the line after a few minutes. In hurling especially you miss two balls and that's it. You're moved from that position, may get a stay of execition in another, one more mistake and it's time for a sub.

What you won't do is muck abut like Millward has done. It just does not work in RL.
So this year is another write off then?IM will find his feet this year and his player then next year he will bring in more of his own players and we will progress.
