Im catching up on all the gossip etc and there seems a very common comment in a lot of threads about players going out drinking.Im not opposed to them having a few and i know millward likes them to relax as he says " there human beings" and need to unwind. But whats seems to be coming across is that players are out and about around Wigan a lot and getting into skimishes etc isnt it about time the players where banned until we are back on track and winning games as its becoming all too apparent that there is a drinking culture at Wigan at the moment
That's always been the case, and not just at Wigan. Don't think it has anything to do with our performances - as I've pointed out before, some of our greatest past players were pretty well-known around the local pubs.

Most of those great past players played in a past era.

Everyone always mentioned Connolly and booze andhow good he was. For a large part of his career he played when the game was still mostly semi-pro.

There is no way you can go out mid-week, get plastered and train well the day after.

I could not get away with turning up for work hungover and doing a bad job as a consiquence so I can never understand why people seem to think it is acceptable professional RL players can do that in their job.

Was well known when he was at Saints that Longy was ALWAYS out round town with Albert anddd someone else who I can't remember the name of! Saw them a few times when I used go round that place with my mates.
Relaxed is good but Longy was always more than relaxed

I personally have seen the lads out and about and i no for a fact that they dont go out and get plastered if they had training the next day! The majority of the lads are sensible enough to stay off it if they have training or a game midweek i say let the lads enjoy it as previous people have said this is not a new thing

Listen lets get real all rugby lads like a drink but it goes to far when a certain Wigan scrum half urinates down mt mates leg in Walkabout they need to realise at the moment the town is disgruntaled with them and they need to increase there performances and stop swaggering around Wigan as if they are something special.

The great Wigan team had a mixed non drinking culture (Hanley, Edwards) and drinking culture (Gregory). However, the bottom line is that drinking is detrimental to rugby league players.

What's the difference between Scott Logan and a dray horse?

One is a huge beast that carts vast quantities of ale from pub to pub - and one has 4 legs!

The same place as this..

Shaun Wane went to the Doctors complaining of stomach ache. The Doc says, "Have you been drinking?"

SW relies "Yes. I had a whisky or two."

Doc, "Was it neat?"

SW, "No it was during the day!" :)

Believe it or not, I was once a finely tuned athelete. Alcohol takes three days to purge from your system; so if fall by the wayside, your always in catch up mode, whether training or competing. The voice of experience speaks.
