Could this explian our confidence in signing the likes of barret???
Ian Millward column
MYSTIC Millward has been looking into his crystal ball and discovered a novel plan that could keep relegation-threatened Wigan Warriors in Super League.
I am reliably informed that if they finish bottom, owner Dave Whelan is ready to bankroll the club for the next 12 months to keep them in Super League.
I can see this happening and it's very much the buzz among the RL fraternity. Wigan would obviously not receive the £850,000 they are entitled to from Sky and would have to go it alone.
This would mean a 13-club competition and rules are in place regarding promotion and relegation but surely Wigan must be part of the top flight.
It will be interesting to see if a self-supported Wigan would be allowed to continue in Super League. We could allow the promoted National League side to come up and let Wigan stay there and support themselves.
But I just wonder. Do we have enough players to go round to support a 13-club competition at this stage?

Why's that then????? He sounds quite confident of his source.
Re: What do you reckon to this...
I've already said there is no way we will be allowed to go down. This sounds like as good a way of keeping us up as i've heard so far.I don't care what other teams fans say,SL will struggle if Wigan are not in it.The RL have to do something about the ridiculous league situation, playing some sides 3 times,is just pathetic.Whatever keeps us up, i'm all for it.

Num lock. I'm in total agreement with you I think the way big name players are still being linked with wigan somthing has to be in the pipe line if the inexcusable happens and we finish bottom.
It's not as if this sort of thing hasn't been done before just look at what the RFL went through to keep London in the league

Because it is a nutty idea.LKC29 posted:

If this happened there would be less games than there are now despite the extra team.
The extra fixtures everyone hates won't fit a 13 team competition. Each team would play each team twice resukting in 24 rounds. There are 28 now and so the clubs loose four games income.
They will never vote for that.

i agree that we need to get rid of playing each other 3 times, but it should be planned well in advance, and not at the last minute just to save our a*rses.

We have only signed two players for next year one of who has said he will come anyway (I have my doubts about that if we go down).
The only other player we have made a firm offer for is PJ but that was for this season to try and help in the relegation fight. He has not been signed for next season.
Anyone saying we won't be allowed to go down based on so called signings for next year is treading on very thin ice in my opinion because we have not signed anyone else beyond Barrett & Bailey.

Re: What do you reckon to ...
Because Wigan generate too much money for everyone in SL,not just in away fans through the turnstiles, but in sponsorship and advertising. It doesn't matter that we are bottom of the league, and I don't care what other fans say(PnB),Wigan is still the biggest name in British RL,and SL can't afford to be without us.bamber posted:
