Cardiff Weekender
I see the Wire official site has details of next years fixtures, 27 rounds , 13 home 13 away, with all teams playing at the millenium stadium over may bank holiday.
I know this has been rumoured but they are giving details of dates and ticket reductions for season ticket holders. what do we all think ?

I think the millenium stadium will be at least half empty for most games. I for one have no interest in paying to watch one or two games between two clubs I don't support. I will not be going.wellimfeked posted:

They may get some local interest but I can't see this being anything like enough to make the place look decently full.

I didn't realise that was confirmed; last I heard it was still very much at the proposal stage.
Like DaveO, I'm not convinced it will work, and very much doubt if I'd be able to make it anyway. Even if I did, (if, say, one of the games was Wigan v Saints), I've no interest in watching, say Cas v Huddersfield, or Catalans v London, on the same day, so I'd just turn up for our match.
In a way I applaud the RFL for being prepared to try something new, and I may well be proven wrong (not for the first time...); I'm just not convinced it will draw the crowds that they seem to expect.

Re: Cardiff Weekender
As a rugby league fan as well as a passionate Wigan fan I will attend all the matches on the day Wigan play. Much like I watch amateur teams in the area if Wigan aren't playing on the same day (away). And just like the fact that I went to the Halifax benefit match recently to support a 133yr old club from going to the wall even though some 'fans' stayed away. I'd watch rugby league against Batley and Dewsbury or Featherstone or Celtic Crusaders, Swinton and of course St Pats if they were playing and I wanted to watch the greatest game of all. Such a shame some people 'stay away' from fixtures not concerning 'our' great club. Just remember these 'other' teams may contain our next Farrell or Edwards.
PS. The St Pats held Mike Gregory benefit match doesn't concern wigan, but I hope fans of 'Other' clubs ie. Wignes, Swinton and Stains attend.
Long live rugby League.

Re: Cardiff Weekender
Mmmm not sure what I would do. If they select marquee fixtures it will hurt clubs financially, if they do not they will not get the crowds. I suppose I am peculiar but I would for instance watch something Wigan connected before I go to watch another club. If Wigan Academy play I watch them, if the Mike Greg match was on, I'd choose that before this idea. If Wigan are not in a cup final, I do not attend.

Re: Cardiff Weekender
It'll depend on how much the tickets cost for me.. if it's going to cost say £50 I might as well not bother since the only match I will truly want to watch is Wigan, but if they're about £20 then I'll definitely go.

Re: Cardiff Weekender
Ideal matches:
Wigan Stains
Salford any team from yorkshire
Warrington any team from yorkshire
would almost be a war of the roses (apart from the wigan game, as we could never support the scousers).

Sorry but I don't want to have to travel to Cardiff to watch that match. I will have paid a season ticket price and expect to have major derbies like that at the JJB with the attendant atmosphere.FROM A TO B posted:

If is our "turn" to get two home games v Saints then I want the club to benefit from the gate receipts.
I also don't expect to have to fork out the extra cash for trips to Cardiff never mind the inconvenience.
I already travel miles each year from Chester to watch Wigan so I can hardly be accused of not being prepared to put myself out to watch the team. I already do!
What I can't do is justify the time and expense to travel to Cardiff for a league fixture. Cup final OK but not for a league fixture.
