WEBSITES

Post by MRS BRIAN CARNEY »

Just been browsing through the other superleague team s websites. The wigan official is a bit poor in comparison to the likes of Bradford or warrington, they seem to have much more information on them, links and that. This one seems to be the best unofficial site. I think that Bradfords is probably the best and should be what wigans should be like. It has so much info on it and is really suprisingly good. Saints was poor also. what d'yall think?

I agree but then we're getting better (slowly). It's only in the last year or so that Wigan have taken the web seriously. At one time there was even talk of the higher-ups wanting to take e-mail away from staff because messages weren't directly generating any money and in their ignorance the management thought it an unnecessary expense for no gain. At least the current official site is uptodate-ish, and is not a different front-end for someone else's news service like in the past.

I've asked the club several times to PLEASE drag the website of the most famour rl club in the world into the 21st century and I think they've done much better this year although I agree that theres a fair way to go, the 2 lads responsible are doing their best but I get the impression its like swimming against the tide for them. Warrington's is one of the best and sites like theirs leave the fans feeling valued and well informed - maybe that's the answer!

Sounds like the same attitude that prevailed when I went to meet the management 5 years ago! They were only interested in anything if it directly increased revenue. Building up good-will and a community feel to the club being a good idea was an alien concept to some members of the old managment team, and its disapointing to hear this still remains the case. Some of the press releases complaining of low crowds, and the lack of marketing, makes me think that some at Wigan believe the public owes the club something - rather than having to work at presenting the club and the sport in the best possible light.

Fans being valued???? This is an alien concept to us isn't it?????

The fact that Warrington have a website that involves the supporters more and makes them appreciated is exactly why Wigan's is so poor.

The Wigan website doesn't make enough money and we aren't valued - simple as! The only things of value at Wigan are the cash signs in front of the board members' eyes.

It would be good if there was a forum for us as honest as this in which you could get responses from the board on certain topics and in which they listened to us - unrealistic I know. The official website has the Riversiders forum, but it is a little bit soft and everyone "sucking up" to the board rather than telling it how it is.
