Re: Mike Gregorys Game
Mike Gregory Benefit Challenge (Wigan St Pats Chairman's select v RL All/Old Stars)
Firstly and on behalf of Greg a huge thanks for agreeing to attend his benefit match at Wigan St Patrick's on Sunday the 24th of September KO 2.30.
The idea to play the match and put on the days events (see program below), was born out of the willingness by his many friends at his old armature club, St Patrick's, to do something to show their support. While the aim is to raise money for the trust fund helping with Mike's ongoing treatment costs and support, the overwhelming response by so many has, in its own right, given Greg a huge boost.
The 'game' will be 20 minutes each way 'Tick and Pass' (More likely to be 'Hobble and drop') with rolling subs. The starting RL team will be announced by our, Warrington and England coach Paul Cullen just before KO - Get your training in now if you think you need it but more helpful to your cause (whether you want to be in or not) may well be bribery!
While we do not anticipate any injuries at the pace we are 'hoping' to compete at, we must remember that we have the likes of Billy McGinty in the squad and possibly many more who may be prone to the odd flash back! With this in mind and while medical cover will be provided it is hoped that all will agree to participate at their own risk - In short it is unlikely that we could obtain the necessary insurance to cover a group of such highly tuned athletes!
We will be aiming to get our match shirts, which have been kindly sponsored by Samurai, signed by the squad before the game so that we can auction or simply sell them to the supporters after the match, but any further auction or raffle items will of course be gratefully received and very much appreciated.
Day's events
1.30 - 2.00 Players arrive
2.30 KO
From 3.30 Player refreshments
4.30 onwards Auction, Raffle and Entertainment
For your info I have listed below those who have to date been contacted and who have kindly agreed to play/attend. However as there are so many that I don't have contact details for, please feel free to forward this e-mail or pass on my contact details to any former teamates that you feel would want to turn out for Greg. All are more than welcome (Remember the bigger the squad, the more subs we can make!)
Squad to date (Team, coaches and critics from):
Paul Cullen, Dave Lyon, Steve Hampson, Kris Radlinski, Mark Foster, Mark Preston, Ged Byrne, Allan Bateman, Jonathan Davies, Gary Connolly, Paul Derbyshire, John Devereux, Martin Gleeson, Henry Paul, Andy Gregory, Kevin Ellis, Chris Joynt, Shaun Wane, Brian Noble, Ian Gormley, Martin Dermott, Denis Betts, Billy McGinty, Mike Forshaw, Phil Clarke, Andy Farrell, shaun long
It will be great to see everyone on the day and to give Greg a much needed boost.
Thanks for your help and support
Regards
Joe

You just make a donation to the various people walking around selling raffle tickets, carrying collection buckets etc. It's free to get in.browns_babe06 posted:

Re: Mike Gregorys Game
Well, the ground isn't the biggest, so I would imagine that they'll get as many as legally allowed in, but if you turn up any later than about 1.30pm, it may be a struggle. Most appear to be aiming for between 12.30 and 1pm. It will be a bit of a wait until KO, but hopefully worth it.
