Lam to stay ???
Re: Lam to stay ???
I agree with whoever said Lam is a spent force, too many injuries have taken their toll IMO. He had a fairly poor game against Wakefield, neither half back were much use. Lams kicking was very poor, he didn't target the spaces well enough. IF we did keep hold of Lam it would give Lindsay an excuse for saying we had no room for Robbo because of the 20/20 rule.

IMO - if we can't get Long - we should sign Obst from Whitehaven. Listening to the Radio Cumbria to the NL1 final eliminiator, the guy seemed to be involved in every move. The pundits were saying how he should be in Super League, and how this will happen with Whitehaven or someone else if they don't get up.
He is young and British with bags of potential (remind anybody of someone else), but he has the experience of being the first choice scrum half and play maker for a couple of years now (abeit at a lower level).
Wigan should take a look at him at least. I'll probably go to the NL1 Grand Final and check him out myself.

Mike, you surprise me. I thought Obst was an Aussie, are you sure he is one of us? :doz:

Il n'y a rien de mal a ça mais il est difficile de penser à autre chose.
Now Europe is just for holidays.

Doesn't matter that he's an Aussie - we've got quota room, it's (allegedly) salary cap room that is the problem.
Are you saying that Obst would come for less than Luke, or that Maurice has been economical with the truth?

Re: Lam to stay ???
Went the last two Haven games and he is a good player, central to everything that they do. He's also a gutsy little fella, you often see the opposition hit him hard and he oftens gives them a bit of a good shove after he's played the ball. Rumours are rife round here that if Leigh win on Sunday (heaven forbid they reach SL!) then Obst will be on his way from Whitehaven!

Re: Lam to stay ???
lets get it cleared up luke robinson was released because maurice didnt think he was going to be good enough! what a lot of people dont know is in the deal to let him go to salford was a clause that said if he leaves salford wigan get first refusal! and unlike leeds with harris who had a hand shake on the deal wigan have it in writing. the salary cap was a way of moving luke on and not getting ripped to bits by the fans.
dont let your victories go to your head or your failures go to your heart

The Leeds deal with Harris did have a clause written into the contract with the Welsh RU. However, Harris had an opt out of his Welsh RU contract after 2 years - which effectively cancelled the contract and all the clauses. This meant that Leeds had no claim on him as he wasn't under contract.
A similar situation would exist with Luke. The only circumstance that a potential "first refusal" cluase would be valid would be if Salford wanted to sell Luke when he was still under contract. Free transfers (as is what happens in league nowadays) and contract releases would make any clause null and void.
Basically, I don't think Luke will be coming back.
