The best form of defence is attack!!

Fair play to you Robjoenz, at least I can put my point to you - even if we have differing opinions. You will at least reply.

It represents how sides fair (pun fully intended) over the course of the season.butt monkey posted:
But, we are taking it that this Fair Play Table, is supposed to, in some way, represent some form of disciplinary performance by each team, irrespective of individual matches.
Overall, these clubs are conceding less penalties/less sin-binnings/send-offs etc than the other teams. Yet, prove that discipline is not the be all and end all in order to win matches!
Can you tell me from that table what the score and penalty count was in the match between Wigan and Hull KR?
Wigan were terribly disciplined in that match and lost the game as a result. It has been a major problem with Wigan all season. They games they've lost they've been stung with penalties.

Likewise... I can argue all day with someone who has a decent argument (usually CP). It's too easy with some people who post one argument then leave it at that.butt monkey posted:

Still, the side is sitting in fourth place, with one of the worst team disciplinary performances seen for many years.robjoenz posted:

My point is that penalties (unless you convert all of them - in kicking range, all the time), are not the main feature of a sides rise up any league table. But the ability (no matter how often they get a chance), to score trys.
I am not arguing, that in games Wigan have lost, certain disciplinary indiscretions were the main reason, just that the poor discipline has continued virtually for all the matches we have played, yet we find ourselves in fourth spot!

Re: Standard Of Refereeing...
It's just been a close season this year.. Wigan are in 4th but have lost 9 out of 19 games. The three sides above Wigan have lost 16 matches between them. had Wigan been better with discipline I think they could well have won against Warrington, Bradford, Hull KR and 'Quins. This would have placed Wigan joint top. All of those games with close scorelines, Wigan weren't far behind the pace at the final whistle.butt monkey posted:

I think the penalties where you don't go for goal are worth more than those you do if you're a good side. You can go from being in your own 20 to being over the half-way line, from defence to try scoring opportunity with 1 kick and 1 set of 6. Similarly, continued pressure on your opponents line leads to tries in most cases. Territory is very important.
