It wasn't the RFL's decision, they were overruled by an independent tribunal headed by a judge.Martin Taylor posted:
A thought crossed my mind! (doesn't happen that often. haha) If we are quite a bit over the cap like many people are suggesting, a 12 point deduction would have all but put us down a division. A 6 point deduction will not however! A superleauge without a Wigan team would have been a disaster for the sport!!! Might just have been at the back of the RFL's minds when they made their decision to revert back to the 2006 punishment scale!!!
MO on Sky - 6 points max deduction

Last season when it was mentioned that we were going to extend SL and stay up if we went down.
The head of the RFL said that this could not happen as it was rettospective as no changes can be made until the end of that season.
SL had us this as a reply to that. So there was a presedence set by the RFL just they forgot about it.

Its on the official site that the reason we are not infront of the rfl on monday is because we would have not been able to put our case together in time without knowing the descision of last nights appeal.
Keep Wigan "Wigan"
