The reason why Brent lifted his knee is very very very very simple He was Walking backwards & is not the type of person to shuffle when he walks backwards. Or is that against the rules now?

Funnily enough - most top level referees avoid mixing with the fans - unless they have a wall of stewards between them...

If you walk with your knee raised that high I suggest you have a problem with your hip!

This is a facetious comment! His legs was not raised SO high that it appeared an abnormal step or walk! He raised the leg slightly more than the norm - in order (imo) to remove himself from the potb area.robjoenz posted:

The biggest Room is the Room for improvement.
The best form of defence is attack!!
Out of the black and into the red, remember you don't get anything for two in a bed!!

Rob the rules state you are allowed 2 markers stood directly in front of the person playing the ball. The rules then state the rest of the team should be 10 yards away. My understanding is that the rules even state the markers should be stood close to the person playing the ball (ala Webb) and that the modern trend for at least the 2nd marker to be stood 3/4 yards back is actually against the rules. I think it says something along the lines that he has to be 'in contact/close to the POTB. Coaches will exploit rules. Getting players to stand 3 yards + back at second marker limits that gap between the 'A' defenders and the POTB.
RE Webb as far as I am aware a player stood at marker can jump up and down, waive his arms. Virtually anything as long as he doees not physically touch the person playing the ball. I think if Klein was asked he would say he thought the leg of Webb made contact with the person playing the ball and that is why he gave the penalty. Having seen the replays he would then acknowledge that was not the case and say he made a MISTAKE
Referees are only human. THEY can and will make mistakes. They can also be pressurised and influenced. As an example, a study a few years ago showed that the home team in X% games received more pnalties and even more penalties in favourable positions. It was concluded that referees feel pressure from the home support and thus home ground advantage would generally lead to a favourable penalty count. Even as an 11 year old schoolboy I was able to influence officials. Imagine what adult professional sportsmen can do.

I only said that to check whether you would acknowledge there was a rule bookcpwigan posted:

So provided the player attempts to retreat to the ten he has not attempted to influence the course of the game. It is infact the dummy half that has chosen to try and make him influence the game.An off side player shall not take any part in the game or attempt in any way to influence the course of the game.
You want zero tolerance, I want common sense. You need to be more pragmatic, you'd penalise injured players limping back to the ten and wingers offside on the opposite side of the field.
How do you waive your arms? Surgical amputation?RE Webb as far as I am aware a player stood at marker can jump up and down, waive his arms. I suspect from his angle he did think he made contact with the ball with his foot looking back it. At the same time though you can't put any part of your body back into the ruck. Why raise the knee? I suspect Butt Monkey has issues with walking (possibly related to how he got his name? I don't know) or maybe watches too much Monty Python if that's classed as normal to him. He moved it towards the players head.
Different standard of referee... U11s are refereed by coaches or kids that have just started, not SL officials with thick skin.Even as an 11 year old schoolboy I was able to influence officials. Imagine what adult professional sportsmen can do.

Well at least I do not claim to be a mind reader like you do. :sly:robjoenz posted:You're either very naive or just biased.butt monkey posted:

Because the above quoted statement from yourself makes you out to be very naive also - if you are falling for this type of player errorrobjoenz posted:
he bends to put the ball down and see in his peripheral vision a knee coming towards his head. That could cause him to think twice about bending down all the way, and the ball is dropped.

Under pressure he loses composure. Whether or not Brent Webb score is immaterial. I honestly do not know BUT he should have gone to the video referee.
Great game
Ashley Klein is already a top ref though...
