With the franchise coming up soon the RFL should spend some time investigating every club for the benefit of the league and the club itself.

The RFL need to make sure that every club in the franchise has all there finances in order and a plan for keep the club going in the future. If St Helens are losing money and also want to move stadium then surely that will put them into even more debt, that same goes for other clubs like Wakefield.

From what I have read the expect to be in debt by about £2.5m by the time they move into the new ground and the new ground will require then to secure loans to move in. So they will have an existing debt to service AND loans to service.

The figures I have seen are based upon then actually getting more gate money, increased sponsorship and a higher income from merchandise none of which is guaranteed. Should things stay the same in these areas or get worse they would be even more in debt.

For things move ahead for Saints they have to get planning permission for the new ground and there are a couple of objections (one being Morrisons super markets) and they have to secure the cash.

They will probably get the planning permission but whether they can convince anyone to lend them the substantial sums of money needed when they are already in debt and are also a loss making operation is far from certain IMO. Especially in the current financial climate where loans are not that easy to come by.

on a simular note, has anyone noticed Bradford have announced profits of £222000 in 2006? they are chuffed to bits about it as it shows they are turning the business around! HANG ON!!! didnt we give then £450000 fot Fielden?? what sort of mess would they still be in now? they haven't got a £450000 player to sell every year!!

You got to laugh at some of the stains people.

one is trying to hide the sheer panic by trying to convince the rest. wigan are in a even worse position finanical than them. that they make loads more than us each year.

the figures that have been released are for the year they won the treble and had record attendances from the fans! so what are next years going to be 500-750 thousand loss?.i dont think any team can carry on losing that amount of money something has to give.i dont think expanding the league will help there cause either how manny more teams will struggle now they are allowed to spend the full amount on the cap? this is bad for the game.

Not read anyone else's posts yet BUT it is sad to see a sucessful club making losses year on year. The 'Earth' sponsorship should have been properly looked into, check to see if it is a viable company to be sponsoring you.

Secondly their supporters only turn up at the big games. It seems they have gone all out for success off the field as they have on and have paid for misestimations.

Hope as a rugby fan they get on track financially, get some proper accountants in and get their fingers out and build their sardine tin stadium 1) more support 2) help the RFL and the game with modern facilities 3) profits.
