Re: Is this what we can expect...
well ancient and loyal you stated that there were some players not fit to wear the warriors and then u name valiki u must be some judge of a player to say he is not good enough after 2 games give the lad a chance and yes you should expect games like these as super league is about more than 4 clubs as it used to be and as for people not being fir to wear the shirt you should have watched them in the seventies like i did when we got relegated when we had to watch the likes of jimmy birts steve nicholson and jimmy fairhurts sotrs then you would have complained.

Re: Is this what we can expect...
SO you'd like to get rid of half of our current back row, one guy who has played two games another one who is in his first injury free season and then on top of that scully who works his ass off every week and carney who showed what he can do in the tri nations.
We always have a slow start to the season, i mean i'm not thriled we got beaten by wakey but on the night they were the better team and we had a team of youngsters, give them a chance

I think one posting had a pearl of wisdom, Liam Colborn looked like he was made for the team, that chase, that pass to Vaealiki, OK Mrs Carney, we might have to play Brian when he is fit but it really is time that when one or other winger is injured we should draft Colborn into the team and leave Aspinwall in the centre. I am tempted to agree with A&L about Aspinwall as he has not got better over the last 12 months but to be fair he has been consistently played out of position and he will never be a winger as long as he has got the proverbial hole you know where.
LEAVE ASPINWALL AT CENTRE, COLBORN ON THE WING

Yes Ian! I've always thought that Aspi isn't a winger. I think Liam has definitely earned 3rd choice wing, which should give him a lot of opportunities given the injury-proneness (is that a word?) of Dallas & Carney. Aspi & Vaialiki as centres, with Wild as a utility sub. I think Dave Allan has moved up the order this season too - he's impressed me in both games.

What happened to class like Andy Grego , Shaun Edwards , Robinson. I think Big Maurice is at fault with the way the club is run and he should step down and let someone with enthusiasm take over.![]()
I tend to agree with the remark about Maurice, he likes his big name Aussie signings too much rather than having some depth.

But you can't have depth nowadays because of the 20/20 rule!robjoenz posted:

No matter which 20 players we had, taking 5 of them out with injury (Davico, Farrell, Dallas, Carney, Sculthorpe from our original 20) leaves 15 to fill 17 places (including a less than fully fit Moran).
Which means 2 players in the squad on less than £20k pa. How many top class players are you going to get on that sort of wage?
We need to get rid of that stupid 20/20 rule if you want depth.

Couldn't agree with you more GeoffN
Re: Is this what we can ex...
Give the rules Superleague operates under I think Wigan Warriors 2005 are a decent enough squad.
Injuries permitting we are good enough to win the title.
We simply lacked forward power on Saturday. We were also missing arguably the two best wingers in the comp as well although that wasnt the difference on Saturday. Colbayn's performance was excellent.
Is it too much to ask for half a dozen consequtive games with no injuries this season? Only then will we really know how good we are.

Re: Is this what we can ex...
Talk about how fickle some people are! Our first (close) defeat of the season with 25% of our 1st team squad missing, against a very much improved Wakefield side. They made the top 6 last year, and must go down as one of the most improved sides in the league.
It's the second game of the season and we are not match fit yet, although we do look like we have put a lot of preseason training in. The first half was a real stop start affair with the mistakes both teams made. The referee did not help with the number of penalties he wanted to give. Like the team I hope they settle down as the season goes on.
I think the only disappointment from Friday was the lack of control our forwards had. I would put Wild back in the forwards, and keep aspinwall at centre.
The late 80's and early 90's were a bit of anomaly as we were probably the only full time professional team. We also had a lot outstanding talent emerge at the same time.
How anybody can critise Mo for his 'big name' Aussie signings is beyond me! He gave us the opportunity (if old enough to remember) to see the likes of Brett Kenny - Gene Miles - Steve Renouf - Ian Roberts etc etc etc. If you cut him open he would have Wigan running through him. He was the saviour after the Robinson/board debacle and the sale to Tesco's. So give him a break - It's only one defeat in a long season.
As for changing half the team - I'm glad your not a chairman or we would definitely be in the smell stuff. I wonder if you will change your minds when we beat Bradford on Friday? Keep it in perspective as you sound like you didn't watch the team in the 70's!!!
