What Higham is being paid now is irrelevant because next season would be a new contract.butt monkey wrote:But, it is unknown WHAT Higham is being paid at the moment....but you can bet it wont be buttons either.bertina wrote:We are desperate for a decent prop, desperate for a decent centre, desperate for a decent winger, and desperate for a decent stand off for next season, so we spend a chunk on a hooker of which we have two decent ones at the club already.
You couldn't make it up!!
Either way, he (and his agent) would have wanted more money for his next (possibly final) contract than previous - that would be hard to argue.
If the club wanted to retain him it would make him an offer in line with its pay policy. It would then be up to him to accept the offer or decline it.
This is not what has happened.
It has not made him any offer either of more or less than his current wage but instead has signed another hooker with Higham still officially in the dark over his future.
I think the original point that other areas of the team are in greater need of attention than hooker is a fair one.
That is before we consider whether the club could have got Higham cheaper next season than Riddle thus leaving more money in the pot. My own opinion, speculation though it is, is that Riddle will be costing us more than Higham would have accepted for next season.
