I agree. I liked him as a player and lets not forget he has a medal from the greatest cup final ever which was well deserved.

Yes that greatest cup final may not have happened if not for his semi performance , he out played his half back partner who had his quietest Wigan game that day and he was not a bad player at all

Edwards was one of the few players who would have been a great in any era of the game, such was his rugby brain.
Look at the impact he has had, and the high esteem his knowledge of rugby has earned him in the other code.
Can't wait for the day when he is coaching us. His mindset is one the things sadly lacking from our team over the last few seasons. He would never ever accept second best, particularly against the Scousers.
“Usually the fans that abuse players like Sam have never done anything of any note themselves. They’re nobodies, whose greatest claim to fame is abusing someone who has, and these so-called ‘Eddie the Experts’ pretend to their mates that they have."

Was Edwards a great, who asks such a daft question.
Hes a bl66dy legend and the most decorated player.
He was great as a captain too he could fire them up and if needed calm them down.
Yes he's a great alright.
He's also my GOD in rugby terms,we could do with a few like him now.
He sittith on the right hand of him upstairs in my books.
Fantastic at no7, and remember he had his jaw broken and refused come off and show any signs of weakness. An all round great in my book.

(ok i'm biased) :)

Edwards was a class apart and still is. He played captained and won the man of the match for England schoolboys playing a year below himself, then repeated this
the year after at his own age group. He did the same playing for England R.U. He won the Lancashire cross country and all the local schools sprints whilst also playing the odd game for the Latics and amatuer R.L He signed for Wigan and won every honour in the game and is more decorated than any other player. He then went to R.U and transformed a sport to the point that he is now respected by the old Farts. All this was achieved without once forgetting were he was from and were his roots are. When you meet him in the street it is hard to explain to the kids how good the man was because he is so normal and just an ordinary Wigan lad done good. I rest my case.

Very quickly off the top of my head:

Hanley must be top

and in no particular order after that

Gregory, Miles, Kenny, Ella, plus a few more

Using the word great is something a little bit special.
